Overview

Visit Eilean Donan Castle and the spectacular Isle of Skye on a full-day trip from Inverness, and explore an iconic Scottish landscape of wind-swept valleys, rock formations, and coastal cliffs. Travel in a luxurious mini-coach, following a route through the mountains of Wester Ross on your way to Eilean Donan Castle and the Isle of Skye, then visit the island’s highlights with an experienced guide. This 12-hour tour departs from central Inverness, and it’s the perfect introduction for first-time visitors to the Isle of Skye.
  • 12-hour Isle of Skye trip with Eilean Donan Castle
  • Travel in a comfortable mini-coach
  • Explore a historic castle on a tidal island
  • Visit the Isle of Skye's scenic highlights
  • Led by a local guide
  • Small group tour for personal service
  • Round-trip transport from a central location in Inverness
Meet a driver at a central location in Inverness for an 8am departure, then board a 16-seat mini-coach for the 70-mile (112-km) trip to Eilean Donan Castle. You’ll have 1.5 hours to visit the castle, which dominates a tiny, tidal island at the confluence of three lochs (entrance fees own expense, roughly £7.50).
From Eilean Donan, continue to the Isle of Skye over the Skye Bridge, which commands sweeping views of the Inner Hebrides. Drive into the mountainous heart of the island, then stretch your legs at the harbor town of Portree, where you’ll have an hour-long break for lunch.
The afternoon is all about exploring the superb Trotternish Peninsula, visiting a series of the area’s scenic highlights, including The Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the Quiraing, a landslide on the eastern side of Meall na Suiramach.
At roughly 4:30pm, begin the return trip to the mainland, passing the majestic Glen Shiel, Loch Clunie, and the Great Glen along the way. The final stretch of the journey follows the edge of Loch Ness—home of the legendary monster—before concluding at the original departure point in Inverness.

Our tour guide was Duncan and he was wonderful. We had a lovely, magical tour of Skye and surrounding areas. He stopped frequently for breaks, found us a deer to hand feed, went hunting for the highland cattle, and told us lots of the fables and myths from Scotland. He was beyond patient and even after what was a very long day for him I'm sure, he never seemed rushed or tired. He played some lovely music for us both on the bus, and with his flute at one of the stops. This was our favourite tour in our 10 days in England, Scotland and Ireland!

A great day just over 12 hours. Colin our guide was very informative and passionate about the history of the area and had the tour group totally engaged. The due to the weather we could not go to our last stop but Colin had a plan B that more than made up for it. Plenty of stops for breaks to stretch the legs and for photo opportunities. Highly recommend this trip.

Wow what an amazing tour. Long day but not a tiring day. So much beautiful scenery to be seen along the way. Our guide Emily was awesome and so funny. Lots of stops to stretch the legs along the way and perfect being only a small group so you could keep up with all the info. Highly recommend this tour

What an amazing day! With the outstanding weather we were able to see everything with a beautiful blue sky. The castle was very interesting especially since Marigold Macrae is the current owner of her familial estate. Our tour guide, Colin, was very thoughtful in his choices of music, history lessons, and general banter. He made the long day a tremendous experience. Definitely take this tour.

Had the most amazing time with Heather and our driver Kevin on Thursday May 17th. We had more than enough time at all the stops we visited on this tour, and Heather provided us with wonderful bits of information about Scottish history and culture and the various sites we were visiting. We also took plenty of comfort stops to use the restroom and stretch our legs. Skye was absolutely beautiful, and if you only have a day to see Skye, I would highly recommend this tour.

Awesome! We had the privilege of having Heather as our guide. She brought us to Eileen Donna Castle, but on that day the castle was closed for some private events. Nevertheless, we explored the exterior areas of the castle. For that, she made up by stopping along some scenic spots in such as Glenshiel, Kyle of Lochalsh and many interesting places in Isle of Skye. She spiced up the tour with her wonderful narrations of Scottish myths and legends, with some historical and geographical facts. We were amazed by her great skills of multitasking-skilled driving good storytelling broadcasting beautiful Scottish music all in one go.
Well done, Heather!
