Why Travelers Choose This Tour

Enjoy two hours’ free time in Sintra on this tour—more than most tours allow.
Meet your guide in central Lisbon for a memorable small-group guided day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Hop aboard your air-conditioned minivan and travel to Sintra. First stop at Pena Park and see the diversity of plants and trees line the beautiful trails. Then, voyage to a spectacular vantage point of Pena National Palace (Palacio da Pena) and the Atlantic Ocean from Queen's Throne.
Continue to Pena National Palace, the most famous of Sintra’s monuments, located at the top of Sintra Mountain. Enjoy this 19th-century Romanticist castle that looks and feels like a fairy tale. Admire its eclectic Neo-Manueline, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles as you head inside. Observe the extravagant bedrooms that used to serve as a summer residence for the royal family.
Depart the palace and stroll with your guide to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra. Spend some free time to have lunch or discover the town’s forested palaces like Sintra National Palace, a medieval royal palace occupied from the 15th to 19th centuries (own expense). Check out the local fare with tastes of aqueijada or travesseiro, two scrumptious and traditional pastries.
Meet back with your guide and travel to Sintra Natural Park. Along the way, pass by Seteais Palace, Quinta da Regaleira and the Palace of Monserrate. Then, whip out your camera for great photos at the rocky bluffs of Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca), Europe’s westernmost point. Briefly, visit Guincho Beach where surfers shred the gnar and then cruise by Hell’s Mouth (Boca do Inferno). Finally, make your way to Cascais’ bay for a walk.
In the former fishing town of Cascais, peruse the narrow streets of this trendy vacation getaway with your guide. Check out classic white, terracotta-roofed houses as you make your way to the beach. Then, bask in the sun as you tuck your toes into the golden sands and gaze over the expansive Atlantic Ocean.
Along the journey back to central Lisbon, where your tour concludes, enjoy pristine views of the scenic town of Estoril.

Thanks to Rui, our tour guide, the trip was great. He gave us a lot of information about Portugal and its history, took care of everyone, and had a great sense of humour. The car was brand new and we were 8 people in Rui’ s group. We had an hour of free time in Cascais and an hour and a half in Sintra. Also a lot of free time in Pena palace and we had a nice photo stop on the way to Cabo da Roca. Highly recommend!

Efficient way to see Sintra and Cascais! Guide was prompt, well educated, passionate on history! I found this 8 hour tour to be well worth the money. Pedro, our guide, picked us up promptly, gave us historical background, reconnected previous points so that the tour made a lasting impact. Without this guided tour we would have wasted a day on transportation alone/parking/ticket. I would highly recommend this tour if you're looking to get out of Lisbon for the day.

Our guide Carlos was great - apart from great stories he also arranged a homely lunch for us. Pena Palace - great architecture but long queues. Inside not comparable to the grand summer residences of the other great European powers of the time.

Our guide Rui is very friendly and knowledgeable. He provides good advice on the attractions and food to eat. The tour is relaxing and not in a rush. You always have sufficient time for taking photos.

We went on a number of small group tours in Portugal which were all around the same price, though this one was by far the least value and wasted a lot of the day on a useless coastal drive. This one only provided driver for the day and entry into the Castle, with limited guide support. There was no lunch and then the drive down the coast was a waste of time, unless you specifically want to drive down the coast and look at the sea. Would recommend getting a train or alternative form of transport to Sintra and coming straight back. If you want to enjoy a seaside trip, hire a car and/or stay out on the coast as there is plenty of accomodation.

A very enjoyable day visiting Sintra, Pena Palace, Cascais and Cabo Da Roca. The available time spent in each location was just about right to appreciate the architecture and sights, in particular Pena Palace and Cabo Da Roca. The trip was further enhanced by a friendly guide who was very knowledgeable on the history of the region.

Definitely should be on your ‘to-do’ list when you visit Lisbon. This good tour became amazing because of our tour guide João who speaks fluent English and is like an encyclopaedia! He has a good sense of humour and we get the impression he loves his job and loves history. It was like having your very own history lecturer on your trip. He gauged our interest accordingly and I loved the amount of detail he was able to go into during the tour.

We had a very informative, professional guide Richard. He kept explaining key facts, not just about the places we stopped but also about every notable landmark/ historical site/ village we drove by. He was also able to answer many questions raised by the tour participants. Sintra was a very touristy town, but worth the visit. I wished we had another 20 minutes there so I could spend a quality time at Quinta da Regaleira, which was unfortunately not part of the itinerary so I made a quick visit during our free time in Sintra village. Quinta da Regaleira is a palace with gorgeous garden on a tree-covered hillside comprising romantic turrets, spiral stone stairs, natural springs and caves. Cascais was a nice seaside town full of fancy cafes and gift shops, but I felt 1hr there was a bit too long - could have cut 20 mins there and added it to the free time in Sintra...just a suggestion! Overall the tour was very enjoyable.

It was a great day with our guide Nuno. He was insightful and interesting and we got to take in all the cool sights while getting a unique feel for the places we visited. The day was very balanced and we felt well taken care of. He went out of his way to make the experience a memorable one. Go!
