What You Can Expect

Karlovy Vary Day Trip from Prague

The Thermal Spa Town of Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad)

Depart Prague by air-conditioned coach and make the journey into the pretty Bohemian countryside. As you travel, listen as your guide tells you about spa town of Karlovy Vary, sometimes known as Karlsbad or Carlsbad.

Hear how this Bohemian town grew up around some natural springs said to have been discovered by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles — or Karl, IV — in 1358. Hear how the town took the emperor’s name and how, in the 1800s, it attracted figures such as Ludwig van Beethoven who came here for the reputedly curative waters.

Drive through the lush forests that surround Karlovy Vary, and visit the town’s Moser glass factory. Learn about the company’s products, favored by Europe’s ruling elite during the 19th and early 20th centuries, and still one of the world’s most prestigious brands of crystal glassware.

See the skilled glassblowers at work and, if you wish, buy some of the exquisite crystal at the factory gift shop.

Continue into Karlovy’s stately center and stroll around the graceful spa colonnades and fountains. Sample some of the water and taste the town’s famous wafers, circular cracker-style treats smeared with chocolate, vanilla and other moreish coatings.

Enjoy an included lunch at a restaurant, and try some Becherovka, a traditional herbal liqueur that’s synonymous with the town. Savor the gingery-cinnamon tipple as you hear how it’s made to a secret recipe using Karlovy’s soft water.

Your trip ends back at the original start point in Prague.

It was a perfect mix. I very much enjoyed the Moser Glass tour as well as the lunch and short walk down the Promenade in Karlovy Vary, but then also was excited to have a few hours to explore the town on my own. The guide was friendly, polite, and knowledgeable and we had a well-rounded group with a nice range of ages. I would definitely recommend this tour.

The tour to Karlovy Vary was great! This town is beautiful and there is enough time to explore it. The only negative was the tour guide Rene, he didn and #39;t explain what we were doing and when, he also ignored any questions we asked or brushed us off a pity because the tour itself was fantastic.

This was an excellent trip to a great place. Our guide was Sonia and she was wonderful.Even our bus driver, a woman in this case, was far superior to her male counterparts on the 3 previous tours we had taken in Prague. The town, including the glass making factory, were superb and though we were given 2 hours on our own there, it was easily spent walking around the town. Lunch was also very good. Far and away our best tour in Prague.
