What You Can Expect

Prague's Little Venice: Sightseeing Canal Cruise

Cruise along Prague's historical canals and waterways

Travel independently to the start point of your 45-minute cruise on the Vltava River in central Prague. Then, board the charming wooden riverboat that’s small enough to navigate the slender channels and bridges on your route.

Relax in the cozy cabin and gaze through the panoramic windows as your boat leaves the dock. Take photos of the statue-lined Charles Bridge and enjoy the panoramas of Prague Castle, the huge walled complex that sits on outcrop overlooking the river.

See the last remnants of the Judith Bridge, the 12th-century Romanesque bridge that, after being damaged by flooding in 1342, was replaced by the Charles Bridge in 1357.

View other landmarks such as the magnificent Rudolfinum, and turn into what’s known in English as ‘Little Venice’: the Certovka Canal or ‘Devil’s Stream.’ This picturesque waterway was probably built during the 1100s, and weaves past some of Prague’s most delightful hidden sights and corners.

Have your camera ready as you cruise along the gentle waters past rows of pastel-pretty Baroque townhouses, little churches and leafy walkways.

Soak up the tranquil atmosphere, and pass a wooden water wheel and old mills that once turned the canal’s water into power for saws and other equipment.

Hear the stories behind each sight, and learn about some of the legends associated with the canal from the guide or recorded commentary.

After 45 minutes, dock back at the starting point, where your cruise concludes.

This tour was one of our favourite things in Prague. Very atmospheric departure underneath the Charles Bridge, felt like a ride at Disneyland. All well organised with no stress, we were ushered politely to the boat that had an English commentary, yet all languages were offered. To be offered a free glass of beer and cake when we boarded was wonderful. The boat trip itself was lovely, our boatman gave a fascinating commentary, with lots of tips and advice including showing us photos and playing us music. This felt more than a boat trip - it was a real experience, and very informative about the culture.
