Booked through Viator. After the free cancelation window had passed the operator contacted me and told me the price had gone up. If we wanted to go to the lagoon we had to pay extra directly to the guide but I could cancel if I wanted. Tried to cancel through Viator but as it was after the cancelation widow there was a 100% cancelation fee - even thought I selected the option that the operator asked me to cancel.
Impossible to actually speak to anyone at Viator. What a scam. And Viator seems to be allowing this to happen.
Tour operators said the price listed on Viator was wrong - then update the listing ?
So we went and got shook down for the extra money. But the bus they provided was this rickety old thing that looked like it was previously used to haul garbage. We were packed in like sardines, with no AC and stinky dirty seats - and a crazy driver who kept trying to pass everyone (some passengers were visibly scared). We pulled up right beside nice new AC busses with clean leather seats and lots of room.
And little information on what to do or where to go. Just dropped off in a parking lot. The passengers had to self-organize and figure things out. The us driver had no clue and there was no tour operator who greeted us - we just stood in a dusty dirt parking lot.
Poor facilities. Were told to bring a towel and a bathing suit but no change areas. Pay toilets only and they were disgusting.
The little boats they had were ancient and not enough life jackets. They actually took us out without enough life jackets across part of the lake to a storage area to get more life jackets - and some people still had wrong sizes (i.e. kid size for an adult).
The lagoon itself was amazing. But you do not need to book through any tour company. Just drive yourself or take a cab/bus there. And you can just go into the lake.
First time booking with Viator. And last time.

The tour started 2 hours earlier than scheduled because they switched lagoons for us to see better. Also the communication was great. We got there swim in the lagoon. Unfortunately we did not see much but that was on us. ! If you book a tour like this check the moon phases! You do not want moon or a clear sky. If it is too bright you cannot see anything.
So far so good until the driver tried to scam us on the way back. He charged another couple 400 pesos each, and told he just collect the money for the operator. Afterwards the operator called him and he told them about while we were in the car! We do not speak Spanish that we'll but we understand enough. He also tried it with us but we refused to pay.
Tour is great. Operator is good. But a scamming driver gets you only 1 star. Sorry not worth it

Hello!! We apologize since there was a confusion. Unfortunately these days the bioluminscence is not seen well due to the moon and in order to have a better experience we went to Chacahua lagoon that is further than Manialtepec, so the price increases. We didnt tell you about the price before, that was our mistake, so the driver thought that you already knew about the extra charge. He just did his work. As I repeat I made a mistake in not lettting you know about it before. Im sorry for that ...but the driver never tried to scam!!! There was a confusion.

The provider Manglarbirdwatch cancelled on the day because of the moonlight so I am waiting for a full refund. I have no complaint provided I get my refund.

La experiencia fue fantástica, el viaje desde el inicio hasta el fin fue lleno de amabilidad y cortesia, la bioluminiscencia es un fenómeno fabuloso e indescriptible, la temperatura del agua espectacular, no te lo pierdas, super recomendado
