I can ditto the review posted by Anonymous 194.We stayed at Refugio Amazonas for 3 nights over the New year weekend.i give it 4 stars for the eco awareness and beauty of the lodge .The service I would rate as 3 or below.
The lodge is beautiful.Amazing closeness to nature, peaceful and tranquil. The open window gives one a feeling of being in touch with nature. The sounds of the jungke together with the stillness at times is exhilarating.
The human compassion is sadly missing. The general manager is ineffective.Heis not transparent with his guests.Activities are poorly arranged. The guide was not familiar with the area.He lacked knowledge opf the dlora and showed little interest in lookong for birds. We were also not taken to the Chuncho Clay lick sight. The guide told us it was not part of the itinerary. The guide changed the programme to suit other guests in our group.
The actual programme we had was not followed and the manager never spoke to us about our days experience.
The staff are allowed their families to be with them during working hours. As a result one has children playing computer games and lounging on the sofas amongst giests. The common areas were untidy with glasses and cups strewn about.Their is no pride in the lodge. As for the food,it was disappointing.Long life milk must be an option ,not milk powder. The food protions were meagre. The breakfat was disappointing.Ham and cheese rolls were the order of the day.
On New Year's eve I enquired about the generator being on until midnight and the plans for the evening.I was told it was a normal shut down at 10pm.Well the staff had a roaring party in the dining room with a lot of noise whislt the guests slept. The next morning empty champagne bottles and glasses greeted us.For the price one pays ....
There is not much wildlife about. The walks are long and just walks. Our guide was not interested in the beautiful flora around us.He did point out 2 frogs, ant mounds and a tree or 2.We did nt look for butterflies or birds except those that came within our view.
The access to the lodge is tough with almost 120 stairs to climb and then a long walk. This should be communicated at the time ofbooking as the lodge is definitely not wheel chair friendly .
i hope that this was just a bad hair day for the staff as it was holidays and festivities. My wish is that other guests have an Amazing time with great sightings and education .
Our guide Jaime was not well experienced with the Jungle. He was also not very interested in the flora around us. he knew very littleon thebirds and did not botherto ask what we were looking for. He just walked and walked and walked.Only stopping if he came across the odd ant or t rmote hill
This is a snippet I received from the Lodge manager
At Refugio Amazonas we have 2 options to experience the Amazon rainforest. Our Classic Expeditions with fixed and prearranged excursions and our new A la Carte program that include all our activities. We are sure program you had was misunderstood, and feel sorry you didnt have the appropriate explanation on time.
