Parrots, macaws, and orchids are among the flora and fauna you're likely to see on this 2-hour hiking adventure in the Sierra Madre Occidental. Explore the natural wonders of this region with a guide, then cool off in the Cuale River and follow-up with a tequila-tasting session.
  • 2-hour guided hiking tour from Puerto Vallarta
  • Learn about flora and fauna of the Sierra Madre Occidental
  • River swim and tequila tasting
  • Pickup and drop-off from designated meeting points
  • Small-group tour ensures a personalized experience

Depart in the morning or afternoon with pickup from central meeting points around Puerto Vallarta — Marina Vallarta (Collage Disco), Nuevo Vallarta, Plaza Las Glorias, or Centro (downtown) — depending on the option selected at time of booking.

You'll head deep into the mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental and embark on a small-group, guided hike covering just over 1 mile (2 km). Search for species of parrots and macaws in their natural habitat, and learn from your guide about the extensive flora, which includes a variety of orchids unique to the region of the Sierra Madres.

Then take a break in an oasis by the Cuale River where you have the opportunity to swim and cool off before hiking back. Top off the experience with a tequila-tasting session.

You're returned to your starting point at the conclusion of the tour.

Tour guides were GREAT. However it was SOOOOOO hot we simply could not do this hike. By the time we got across the hanging bridge we knew it was not going to work for us. We are not old 57/61 and we are healthy and active people, but the heat was just too oppressive that it was just not fun and we did not go to Puerto Vallarta to push our limits. So we sat in a cabana on the other side of the bridge and shot the breeze with the tour guides while enjoying a cool drink, and then they took us back to the center and we had margueritas and chips and did a tequila tasting. All in all it was a pleasant day but when they say hiking they mean hiking and a lot of it is uphill.

I do want to commend the tour provider and especially the guides, however. So pleasant, so accommodating, and really great people.
