This was a pretty comprehensive tour that covered a lot of territory. Unfortunately, we weren't aware of the time change when our cruise pulled into Puerto Vallarta so we were late meeting our guide but a liaison took us to him and gave us some city history on the way. Carlos was so friendly and helpful, I highly recommend him and would definitely go with him again if we go back.
We fully enjoyed this tour. We were a party of 8 and picked up exactly on time by a 16 passenger van with 4 others, so lots of room. As first time travelers to Puerto Vallarta, this tour gave us a great introduction to the area. Our guide Mario was very knowledgeable about the area, and lots of fun. The Tequila distillery was a must see and the lunch location was a lovely restaurant in a small village well off the beaten path alongside a flowing creek. Picture taking while holding huge iguanas added to the day.
The tour was good, informative and relaxing.
We had authentic Mexican lunch at a family owned OK restaurant in a serene river side location.
The guide Angel was friendly and patient. Driver Antonio gave us very smooth ride. The tequila tasting was a fun activity.
Overall the day well spent to get know about PV.
It felt like we spent 75 of our time in the van. I didn't feel like we saw very much for a full-day tour. We were dropped off downtown so we could walk, on our own, to see the Our Lady Guadalupe Church, anything else we could see, and do a little shopping and we were given only 45 min. There was really nothing informative or outstanding to see downtown. We stopped off to briefly take a picture of the two rocks of Los Arcos, and then on to the Tequila Distillery which was by far the most educational and interesting thing we did. You learn the process and get to sample different tequillas. Overall, I wouldn't do the tour over it was inexpensive and maybe the Disterilly alone was worth the price but I would rather just visit the Tequila Distillery in it's own tour and not waste my time with the rest.
Had a great tour guide Tomas. We were on the cruise ship and the ship time is hour later than PV so we missed our pickup by 30 mins had to pay cab ride to downtown $15 to meet up with the tour. This tour didn't incl the Mismaloya beach and spent to much time @ prearranged shops would like to see more
Ok tour of the town but too much time spent in the opal shop to try to sell us jewellery this was not expected and too little time spent in the more cultural areas. Our guide was okay but not very engaged... just went through the motions although I realize he does this a million times it would be nice if he was into it... the photographer was more animated! The highlight of the tour was the tequila distillery part at the end and that was worth it. Great presentation and the samples were awesome! Lunch was just okay and not worth pre-paying as I feel I ended up being double charged even though I kept saying I had already pre-paid. All in all, this was just an okay tour and far too long for what it provided. We were gone for 6 hours on a tour that could have easily been 2 hours long with the tequila distillery and more cultural sites versus trying to always be selling us more stuff.
The description for this tour should be updated since it is not accurate, it does not go to Mismaloya beach at all.
Here is how my trip went and I was pretty disappointed with it.
I was picked up on time 9:20 and we went to wait for some other people across the street, they did not show up so after about 20-25 min we finally left. I was driven further north to a pastry shop where there were others waiting for different tours. Another van came in with 10 people already in it and me and 2 other passengers were told this is our tour so we went in and started.
We went down south passing my hotel so I was surprised why I was driven first north but this was not a big deal. The van itself was not really comfortable for 13 people and was of the type that it is pretty hard to go in and out of the 3rd and 4th rows, it is more like for a quick trip to the airport. We went to downtown and were dropped in front of the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and were told we have 10 min and not to go anywhere else. In 10 min driver came back and we drove to a nearby jewelry store to use the bathrooms and probably purchase something in it. We were there about 10 min or so and then hopped on the van and drove to the mountains. The road as you can expect is pretty rough, there are some nice places along the way but we did not stop anywhere. I was expecting to stop at least on one point where we can take some nice pictures from the coast line and this was disappointing. Next stop was in a coffee shop in the mountains. I did not catch where we were as the guide was pretty bad in my opinion and was not giving almost any information. 10 of the passengers were Spanish speaking and 3 English, so he tried to speak both when he did explain something, mostly speaking Spanish, additionally he did not have a microphone and I can hardly hear him on the last row of the van. The stop at this coffee shop was pretty meaningless if you ask me. After that we went down the hill to a river with a zip line on top, so my guess is it could have been the Canopy river but not sure. We stayed there 10 min to take photos but I really did not find this place very interesting. I asked aren't we going to the beach and the guide was surprised and said this tour does not visit a beach. After that we went to a nearby restaurant and had lunch. It could have been paid initially when you book the tour so let the guide know as there is some restriction what you can order in this case. After lunch we drove to a close by tequila distillery where we were explained the process of manufacturing and had a tasting. This was the highlight of the tour and it lasted maybe 20-30 min max with us wondering around and shopping. After that we drove back about 50 min again without any stops along the coast and I was the first dropped at my hotel.
Overall I'm very disappointed, the description was misleading. we did not have any time to walk in downtown or Malecon passing by on the road next to it we stopped for 2 min to see it only without getting out of the van as it is not allowed to stop on the street there. It should be changed to something like - visit to the church, a river zip line and tequila distillery. Viator should work with the provider so they offer accurate itinerary for this tour.
I would not recommend this tour based on my experience.
We took this tour 2/14/2018. We have taken many viator tours and usually every new place we visit, this is the first tour we were disappointed in. While we enjoyed the tour guides and our fellow passengers very much, we were very disappointed with the following: 1 folks going on a city tour do not want to feel the pressure of having to shop in an overly priced Opal/silver jewelry shop. There is so much more to the city the 30-40 mins spent with high pressure sells could be spent much more enjoyably by experiencing actual historical or cultural sights. 2 the restaurant choice for lunch is limited to 1 and does not allow for folks to choose options other than what the restaurant wants you to purchase expensive and no vegetarian options.
