First things first: You will get muddy on this trip, especially if it has rained at any time recently. I mean MUDDY. You will go through puddles deep enough to hit the floorboards of your buggy, and it will splash up onto you and the seats. Bring a bandana or buy one there for 5, and preferably some sunglasses that cover up your eyes well, too. That said, this is part of what makes this adventure fun. You will pass other buggy adventures there's like 20 companies that do this with different types of buggies. Some are higher off the ground or more covered, but the people also look way more bored. I'd definitely say this particular excursion is for the adventurous type who isn't going to freak out about getting dirty and loves to have fun. Another note: Be careful what you bring with you. Your bag, purse, backpack, whatever will also be covered by the time you're done. I recommend maybe a small bag with a towel, even a plastic shopping bag or something you don't care about. Now... on with the actual review!
You'll start out heading out onto some of the back roads of Punta Cana and will also take a few smaller trailers the muddy is just getting started here before you end up at a 'traditional' coffee roasting facility. There you will learn a little bit about coffee, chocolate and other odds and ends and of course people will try to get you to buy a lot of things. This is clearly a 'sales' stop, but it is also informative and the english guide at this place was quite funny and had a dirty sense of humor.
After that you will head onto more back trails where the muddy fun really begins as you make your way towards the underground cave swimming pool thing. This place is actually pretty cool! The water is a little chilly but not bad. Also on the early morning excursion departing 9am we were the only ones in the pool. We all decided to go for a little swim and they took some awesome photos of us. The water there is amazingly clear and it is really a fun experience. Once again, there's a ton of people trying to sell you stuff, but they all backed off with a firm 'no, gracias'
Speaking of photos - as it mentions, you will be followed by the 'paparazzi', basically photographers on motorbikes who speed ahead and then snap photos of you as you drive past. They actually have some very nice cameras and the photos they take are great more on that later.
Once your time in the pool is over it is fairly short : you will hop back into the buggies and quickly start to get yourself muddy again after getting clean in the pool. More of the same now - lots of muddy trails as you head towards Macao beach. Macao beach is a public beach that is a bit more crowded but it was also very nice. Beautiful sand, lovely waters, but again a fairly short stay.
Afterwards you will make your way back to the facility where you'll have the chance to take a quick outdoor shower to clean yourself and your muddy clothes, and you'll also have the tour operators try to sell you a CD of your photos for 40. In this case? I thought it was totally worth it, and I never buy this stuff. You can see the photos first, and the quality is really great AND they do a very quick job of making sure you only get photos of you and not the other participants. The 'action' shots are great, showing you flying through the trails with water spraying everywhere. If you spend anything on this tour, spend it here.
After that it is back to the hotels, a bit exhausted, a bit dirty, and very happy.
SO MUCH FUN! This was an absolute blast, From beginning to end, nonstop fun. Buggy Riding in the mud, Shopping in the nearby village, Deep Cave Swimming and a stop at the beach to cool down. I highly recommend it and will definitely do it again.
Had a great time on this tour. Everyone was friendly and the ride path was adventurous. Well worth the price!!
LOVEEEEEE this was my favorite adventure of them all. I am never the one to get down and dirty but this was fun! Make sure you don't wear your favorite shoes lol.... Blackey was a great guide.
We loved it! My 66 year old mother enjoyed riding with her grandsons and all the views too!
This was a fun and exciting experience and something any age can do. We had a blast.
the driver was 25 minutes late picking us up at the hotel, but once we got there it was all good.
I really enjoyed this trip. Buggies go pretty fast. I recommend it for couples to share one. We went to Macao Beach, wish we would've had more time there as they only gave us about 15 minutes there. After the beach they take you to a plantation where you can buy souvenirs like coffee, cigars and liquor. After the plantation we made our way to a cave where you can go for a swim if you choose to. Be careful with your personal belongings when at the cave. The locals there are very pushy and sketchy characters. Also be careful with the kids that like running alongside the buggies. Overall the scenery to and from is beautiful and by far one of my favorite day-trip's in Punta Cana.
The buggy ride is super fun! the worst part is that they have you stop in two places that have people selling stuff to you, which gets annoying.
Our buggy broke down a few times - other than that, we had a blast! The pool was beautiful and so was the beach. The staff were wonderful and accommodating.
I agree with the others...prepare to ruin your clothes. We were filthy! My husband was the only and #34;nerd and #34; that brought his own tactical goggles...he didn and #39;t seem so nerdy after the first mud hole! Bring cash and waterproof bags for your valuables. Bumpy. Muddy. Fun times!
Overall it was good. It felt a bit rushed when we arrived at the cave and the beach. It was also extremely packed. But we had a great time. Definitely recommend
This tour was amazing. We had a lot of fun driving through the areas and visiting the spring. I would only change not going to the beach. The beach was dirty and you are constantly harassed by the locals to purchase something.
Great fun, be prepared to get muddy! The buggies were very easy to drive and the route we took was great fun. The only downside was that we literally had 15 minutes at Macao beach which was a huge shame as the beach is gorgeous and the water is crystal clear.
It was a great experience, it was more sandy than muddy might have been time of year late July. Definitely make sure you wear a bandanna and sunglasses! Only reason for 4 stars is the dune buggies were definitely a little cheaper quality than the Wild Tiger ones I saw not worth paying the higher price at other locations though. However, I loved having the ability to just have a two seater me and my wife vs sharing a dune buggy with 2 other people I did not know, like at other locations. Photographer was great, highly recommend getting the pictures, great quality!
This tour was okay. The only thing negative was the pushy sales people at the River and rushing tour guides at the beach..
