Overview

Observe squirrel monkeys on this trip to Monkeyland, deep in the Dominican Republic's jungle. Ride a safari truck on this half-day tour through local coffee and cacao plantations, then visit the monkey sanctuary and its botanical gardens. Learn about the local farmers' organic farming methods, sample local coffee or hot chocolate, and see and feed 20 monkeys that have been raised to be comfortable around people. Round-trip transportation from Bavaro and Punta Cana hotels is included.
  • Guided trip to Monkeyland and a local plantation aboard an open-air safari-style vehicle
  • Observe squirrel monkeys in their natural habitat offering stunning mountain views
  • Get to know the island’s colorful native plants and flowers at the habitat's botanical garden
  • Visit a local coffee plantation, mingle with the farmers, and sample local coffee or hot chocolate
  • Round-trip transport from most Punta Cana and Bavaro hotels included
A brightly painted safari vehicle picks you up in the early morning at your Bavaro or Punta Cana hotel. Get to know your local guide on the way to a typical Dominican country plantation.

Meet the local famers and hear about their organic farming methods, used to cultivate cinnamon, cacao, coffee, and vanilla. Taste coffee or hot chocolate, and take advantage of the opportunity to purchase some of these straight-from-the-source products to take home.

Climb back in your jeep and ascend a mountain road deep into the jungle. Arrive at Monkeyland, a 5-acre (2-hectare) squirrel monkey habitat managed by a dedicated couple. Follow your guide on a guided tour of the sanctuary, where you have the chance to watch and feed the monkeys. Visit the botanical garden, featuring native trees, plants and flowers, before boarding your jeep for transport back to your hotel at the end of your tour.

Feeding the monkeys and taking funny pictures with a bunch of them all around

Awesome experience! The monkeys are so cute! It's nice to see how the place is concerned about their health & safety and we had a lot of fun. I recommend this tour to all ages.

Excellent overall experience. Lots of monkeys that were everywhere. Plenty to go around. Would recommend going at least once. Thought it would be more of a kid's trip but most our group was adults.

Monkey land is a good 40-60 minute drive from the resorts. Transport was on an open air vehicle. Bumpy ride but not unbearable. Plantation tour was interesting but not riveting for kids. They showed us how cocoa, coffee, and coconut products were made. QEnded with a sales pitch to buy products. Monkeys were the hilight of the visit. 20-30 minute interacting with them. Visitors were given bowls of fruit and monkeys swarmed to get food. Monkeys were well behaved. We weren’t allowed to pet them and they pretty much ignored us except to get the fruit. My biggest complaint is that our concierge tried multiple times to Confirm our pick up time for the morning of the excursion. Tour company was too busy or didn’t answer the phone. Finally at 6:30 pm the evening prior to thee excursion, Viator emailed us with a pick up time. We were concerned!

Basically it's a 2-3 hour sales pitch to try and flog coffee and chocolate and then you get to see monkeys which is the only reason anyone goes there. Bizarre experience where 2 seperate members of the tour got into a fight around the monkeys... Both members were allowed to continue which didn't seem fair especially as there are families present. To top it off, instead of dropping us straight back to our hotel we had to wait by side of road for 20 minutes for members of another tour to join us. This was not communicated to us at all. The only reason it gets one star is because of the monkeys

Lived Up To The Hype

Prior to our visit I read all of the reviews talking about how soft and adorable the monkeys were, and it somehow surpassed all of our expectations. The monkeys were incredibly soft and photogenic, and Monkeyland was one of our many highlights of a great trip to Punta Cana.

We had a great time at Monkeyland. The monkeys are so soft and cute and there was lots of interaction. The open air bus was a great way to see the Dominican!

The visit to Monkeyland was a lot of fun. The spider monkeys jumped on our heads. They were so cute especially the babies. The next part of the tour was to a coffee and cacao plantation. My companion and I were not prepared to climb a long staircase with no rails to get to the presentation. I was helped by other tourists. This is not a tour for disabled people.

I can not express enough how magical this excursion was. Both me and my partner felt this was the best excursion our entire holiday. I would recommend this to any animal lovers. The monkeys feet are so soft and the freely will jump on you at one point we had 10 monkeys on each of us.
