A pixie-like squirrel monkey rests on your head, while another snatches food from your hand. It might sound like something from a dream, but it's a real way to create memories with your family.
A brightly-painted safari vehicle will pick you up in the early morning at your Bavaro or Punta Cana hotel. Get to know your local guide on the way to a typical Dominican country plantation.
Meet the local famers and hear about their organic farming methods, used to cultivate cinnamon, cacao, coffee and vanilla. Taste tropical fruit plucked freshly from the tree, and take advantage of the opportunity to purchase some of these straight-from-the-source products to take home.
Climb back in your jeep and ascend a mountain road deep into the jungle. Arrive at Monkeyland, a 5-acre (2-hectare) squirrel monkey habitat managed by a dedicated couple. Follow your guide on a 45-minute tour of the sanctuary, where the friendly monkeys, accustomed to human contact, might perch on your shoulder or eat from your hand. Visit the botanical garden, featuring native trees, plants and flowers, before boarding your jeep for transport back to your hotel at the end of your 5-hour tour.
Highly recommend! The monkey's are so adorable and the facility is clean and the monkey's looked like they were healthy and well cared for.....Long drive, but interesting driving through the towns to get to the location.
This tour was absolutely amazing! Pick up was on time! It was a 50min drive down the country side of Dominican Republic. The tour guide keeps things interesting! The monkeys jump on you
This is an excellent tour. We took an open-air jeep, through many little villages, up the mountain to the monkey sanctuary. We met with the guide who explained that the monkey are human friendly but still wild animals. You are not allowed to pet the monkeys but it's okay because once in the enclosure the monkeys climb all over you. You are given a bowl of fruit and nuts and the monkeys climb on you and eat right out of the bowl. The monkeys have a large enclosure to live in and are allowed to live as they would in the wild. After the monkeys we walked, a short distance, to a cocoa and coffee plantation where they showed us how they harvest/roast and process coffee and chocolate. We had samples of the coffee and hot chocolate. Delicious. Special mention to our tour guide Nacho, who was funny and engaging. This tour is totally worth taking.
Really fun to play with the monkeys. I wish I would have bought more of the coffee and sugar at the coffee plantation.
This was an excellent tour with great guides. Be prepared because the monkeys are quick. I enjoyed the experience, it's a must!!!!!!!!!
Had a brilliant afternoon on this tour. Feeding the monkeys was amazing, they climb over your head and sit on your arms which was lovely! The coffee and chocolate part was very interesting, and the hot chocolate and fresh fruit were really tasty! Would definitely recommend.
This tour was amazing!
This tour was great, except i wish we could've spent more time with the monkeys. The second part of the tour was fascinating. Book it, you wont regret!
Tour was fantastic. The monkeys are very friendly and follow you through the park. They play and jump on you. It is really a great time. If you get PJ for your tour guide you will have a blast.
We just returned from our week in Punta Cana, this tour was definitely a highlight. I recommend it. I don't think you can request a tour guide, but if you find a way to do so Patrice was wonderful. He was really knowledgeable and interactive with the kids.
