What You Can Expect

Samana Day Trip: El Limon Waterfall and Cayo Levantado from Punta Cana

Visit El Limon Waterfall during your tour

Your friendly guide and driver will collect you from your Punta Cana hotel in the early morning and transport you in air-conditioned comfort on a one-hour scenic bus ride through the epic landscapes of Dominican Republic’s stunning countryside to the town of Miches. Your Samana day trip with stops at El Limon Waterfall and Cayo Levantado from Punto Cana kicks off with a catamaran cruise across the Samana Bay.

You’ll disembark at Santa Barbara de Samana and hop into a safari truck that will take you through the tropical foliage of Ceyba Park. Explore the garden, which is home to some 100 exotic plants and sample local fruits fresh from the trees! Relax for a light breakfast before taking off on horseback in El Limon.

After a brief safety meeting and orientation, you’ll embark on a 20-minute ride with a local guide. Take in the surrounding landscapes and learn about the flora and fauna that line your path along the way. Take a refreshing dip in the swimming hole at El Limon Waterfall before saying so long to your horse.

Travel by foot along the famed El Malecon—the boardwalk that winds along the coast of Samana. You’ll enjoy a savory lunch at a local restaurant filled with Caribbean cuisine. (Rum, juice, water and soda are included.)

Finally, climb back into your catamaran and venture off to the shores of Cayo Levantado—known also as Bacardi Island. Take some time to enjoy the white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters while sipping on a cold beer, juice or soda (provided). When the day is through, you’ll head back to Miches and finally be dropped back at your Punta Cana hotel.

I did a long review on tripadvisor of the local tour operator. This is a must excursion. picked by a small bus that traveled about 15mins then dropped us off at a hotel parking lot. we waited til 6:45am with no direction and the place is very scary guys walking around with machetes no one spoke English then got picked up by a bigger bus with Freddie our English, German speaking tour guide. he gave us a breakfast snack: its ham sandwiches a banana, a cup of orange juice. the drive is outstanding we traveled through a lot of fields, mountains, valleys, streams, you truly get a culture shock.. We got to Miches at about 9am boarded a small catamaran to Samana. On the catamaran the crew is great they play music and gave drinks. We arrived at 10am to Samana hopped on a Safari truck to a home. had new guide Roberto Jones, he was crazy in a good way. Got to the home about 10:20am. The guides showed and explain all the different foods and alcohol and we got to taste then off to the place with the horse. These volunteers yes Volunteers do not get paid form the company so please tip them accordingly I say 20.00 is about right. they walk through rocky, very muddy terrain to get you to the waterfall. They go down with you. Hold your stuff, take your pictures. they are amazing peopleYes the stairs are crazy I counted 249 crazy weird shaped stairs The waterfall wasn't as wow as I was expecting. I think it must be dry season because it ran a bit. I went in for a dip the water is so cold but feels amazing after being on the trial also be very careful its very rocky .1:30 pm we went and had lunch at El Timón de Samaná, 2:45pm.back on the boat to Cayo Levantado got there about 3:15pm and were allowed to be on island til 4:30 pm. This place is stunning wish we got to stay longer. there are only a few vendors in booths none bother you on the beach which is amazing. This place just absolutely beautiful. go back to Miches 5:15pm back hotel 7:30. Long day.

We had a great time. We probably should have done the one by plane because going by boat makes for a long day, but we saved money with this one.

The trip was very well organized, well paced and the staff was very courteous and friendly. The included food was surprisingly good. I would totally recommend this trip. The catamaran and bus on Samana are open - so having enough protection against the breeze is highly recommended.

The travel time from Punta Cana was around 150 minutes each way on a crowded shuttle van. The best part of the trip was the time at Bacardi Island, unfortunately this was also the place that we were allotted the least amount of time likely due to the excessive travel time to/from Punta Cana.

It was ok

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better January 2016

For the cost I wouldnt recommend. You spend have your day in a bus, it is very unorganized. We bought a cd of our pictures from the horse ranch and there was not one picture of us on it. They put a picture of you on the cd cover and thats the only pic you get, the pics on the cd are of the land, not the pics that are being taken, the picture on the cover wasnt even on the disk so you will pay 10 for that one paper picture. The horses are small and the waterfall, although its very pretty, is so crowded that you cant enjoy it, we couldnt even get in the water it was so crowded. Lunch was ok but short. The beach stop was the best but you only get an hour there and only beer or soda, unless you want to pay for mixed drinks. The beach was packed as well, they tell you its 50 public and 50 private, there was no private about it.
