What You Can Expect

Milford Sound Full-Day Tour from Queenstown including Scenic Flight

Milford Sound Boat Cruise

Start your Queenstown departure to Milford Sound with hotel pickup by luxury coach, hugging the shores of sapphire-hued Lake Wakatipu with the rugged Remarkables range as your backdrop. Your guide stops for morning tea (own expense) in Te Anau, considered the gateway to the UNESCO-listed Fiordland National Park.

Prepare to be wowed by the grandeur of the landscape throughout the scenic coach trip. Motoring through the Eglington Valley, you’ll pass alpine beech forests and pause for photo ops at the Mirror Lakes. Continue on to the Hollyford Valley, past Christie Falls and through the Homer Tunnel before coming upon the Cleddau Valley on the final leg into Milford Sound.

Jump on a luxurious catamaran for a 1-hour and 45-minute cruise. En route, you’re surrounded by dense rainforest and tumbling waterfalls that cascade from glacier-carved rock walls into the pristine waters of the sound. An informative crew provides commentary on spires like Mitre Peak, and helps you spot marine mammals and birdlife including New Zealand fur seals, bottlenose dolphins and Fiordland penguins.

If you’ve opted for lunch, enjoy a meal on board, before swapping your cruise boat for a Milford Sound scenic flight by light aircraft. The 1-way flight from Milford Sound back to Queenstown soars over Fiordland and other regions in New Zealand's untamed countryside, including the snow-capped Southern Alps (weather permitting).

Upon landing in Queenstown, your full-day tour ends with a ground transfer to your hotel.

We had a great time visiting Milford. Our tour guide was great. The only bad thing was the weather that day caused the flights out of Milford to be canceled, but the boat tour of the sound and the stops that we made on the way to Milford more than made up for this.

This involved an early start and a long coach drive, but the stunning views and cruise on Milford Sound made up for this. We had an excellent buffet lunch on board the Pride of Milford. Due to low clouds at Queenstown, we were unable to fly back and returned by coach, but this did not spoil the enjoyment of the day. The coach driver was excellent, stopping at various locations so that we could take photographs.

Awesome trip. The flight back was cancelled due to high winds, which was unseen BUT our excellent drive on the day sorted out for us to take the helicopter ride instead. This was a bonus as we landed on a glacier making this great trip even more memorable. Overall a must do and if you can take the flight option - DO!

The weather on our May trip was terrible. This area is best to visit in NZ's summer and spring. We saw many rainbows due to the rain, but rain prevented the beautiful views of mountains. Driver was amazing on the treacherous roads and was very knowledgeable about the area and told historical tales. Boat trip was ok, but the rain was a factor. Bring your own lunch as food on the boat was not the best. We did not get our flight due to weather. Viator is refunding our fee for the airplane.
