What You Can Expect

Milford Sound Mariner Overnight Cruise from Queenstown

Scenic flight from Milford to Queenstown

Following hotel pickup in Queenstown, board the luxury coach for a leisurely 5-hour drive to Milford Sound, part of the UNESCO-listed Fiordland National Park. Departing the shores of Lake Wakatipu, you’ll travel through the scenic countryside to Te Anau for a brief lunch break before continuing along the renowned Milford Road. Your driver provides informative narration and lets you stretch your legs during short walks and photo stops en route to your destination.

Upon arrival, board the Milford Mariner for your Milford Sound overnight cruise. The purpose-built vessel is designed for the fiords, with an observation lounge and large open decks to view the many landmarks, such as Mitre Peak, accompanied by commentary from the nature guide on board.

Keep your camera on hand as you pass waterfalls, rainforests and glacier-carved cliffs en route to the Tasman Sea, and search for South Island marine life such as New Zealand fur seals, Fiordland penguins and bottlenose dolphins.

In the afternoon, the Milford Mariner anchors overnight in the tranquil waters of Harrison Cove. Enjoy kayaking or exploring the shoreline on the tender craft with a guide, or just relax on deck.

Then sate your appetite with a delicious three-course buffet dinner, served in the spacious dining saloon. If you’d like, you can purchase a drink at the licensed, onboard bar before retiring to your private single or twin-share en-suite cabin.

The next morning, enjoy a cooked breakfast and further cruising before returning to Milford Sound Wharf. After disembarkation, you'll either return to Queenstown by coach or by scenic flight (if upgrade selected).

Optional Upgrade (Coach/Cruise/Fly): End your Milford Sound cruise on a high note with a 35-minute, one-way flight from Milford to Queenstown. After discovering Milford Sound from the sea, board the twin-engine plane for a spectacular aerial view of alpine scenery including glaciers, rivers and rainforests. A courtesy shuttle delivers you from Milford Wharf to the airstrip located only minutes away.

Please note: Flights are weather dependent. If due to unfavorable weather conditions the flight does not operate, you will return to Queenstown by luxury coach and be refunded the difference.

Very beautiful! It rained for part of our trip, but the guys still went out in the kayaks and had a great time. The waterfalls everywhere and the shear cliffs above us were spectacular. I and #39;m sure the rain made for the increase in water production for the waterfalls. The food was even good.

Perfectly beautiful!

Great trip! Milford Sound is amazing! I recommend staying and doing the overnight as it is a long drive if you are coming from Queenstown. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I tried to return to Queenstown the same day. The staff were wonderful, the food was great and it was fun meeting people from other places. Beware of the sand flies, they are everywhere!

Wow! An absolute must! Got up at 5am for the sunrise and what a site! Guide was brilliant on the way there and you will not got a better view than the plan back to queenstown! Only downside was load mouthed yanks, only interested in getting drunk and being stupid (not all of them)

Excellent cruise and great staff! Stop by places during the coach ride such as mirror lake. The coach driver was very knowledgeable and provided commentary on the way to Milford Sound. Everything was explained clearly and in detail so that you know what to expect. Highly recommend this cruise! Absolutely breathtaking you will not want to leave.

The bus ride there and back was comfortable, informative and entertaining. Our room on board was small but all we did was sleep there, so no big deal. Everything was clean and in good working order. We didn't use the ensuite shower, so I can't comment on that. The staff were all very personable and made all the activities that much better. Dinner and breakfast were great. About the only negative I can think of is that, like all Kiwis, the staff at the bar labor under the delusion that 30 ml of whiskey is a shot. I'd recommend this trip highly.

This was the highlight of our south island trip. Simply superb scenery on both road to, and on the cruise. The coach driver, Adrian was very friendly and knowledgeable and we've stopped at many beautiful spots for photos. The coach itself has windows on the roof which let us see the high mountains of Fiorland National Park. The ship is modern and although our cabin was a bit small, it was quite cosy and comfortable. Plenty of nice foods & drinks available. As the weather was permitting, we went right out to Tasman Sea at sunset!

The must for any traveller to New Zealand! Not the Milford Sound itself, but also the road to there - after it you may imagine for what reasons Peter Jackson shoot his Lord of the Rings movies in his native New Zealand! And, I guess, this choice is much better than one day (or half-day) cruise on Milford Sound. The evening in the fjord, the night on the ship and the fjord in the morning are the best of my impressions of New Zealand (where I have spent 2 weeks and have seen lot of attractive places). The only bad thing - weather was not good, but of course this is what any trip organaizer could not prevent or change.
