Returns to original departure point
Following hotel pickup in Queenstown, board the luxury coach for a leisurely drive to Milford Sound, part of the UNESCO-listed Fiordland National Park. Departing the shores of Lake Wakatipu, travel through the scenic countryside to Te Anau for a brief lunch break before continuing along the renowned Milford Road. Your driver provides informative narration and lets you stretch your legs during short walks and photo stops en route to your destination.

Upon arrival, board the Milford Mariner for your Milford Sound overnight cruise. The purpose-built vessel is designed for the fiords, with an observation lounge and large open decks to view the many landmarks, such as Mitre Peak, accompanied by commentary from the nature guide on board.

Keep your camera on hand as you pass waterfalls, rainforests, and glacier-carved cliffs, and search for South Island marine life such as New Zealand fur seals, Fiordland penguins, and bottlenose dolphins.

In the afternoon, the Milford Mariner anchors overnight in the tranquil waters of Harrison Cove. Enjoy kayaking or exploring the shoreline on the tender craft with a guide, or just relax on deck.

Then sate your appetite with a delicious 3-course buffet dinner, served in the spacious dining saloon. If you’d like, you can purchase a drink at the licensed, onboard bar before retiring to your private single or twin-share en-suite cabin.

The next morning, enjoy a cooked breakfast and further cruising before returning to Milford Sound Wharf. After disembarkation, either return to Queenstown by coach or by scenic flight (if upgrade selected).

Optional Upgrade (Coach/Cruise/Fly): End your Milford Sound cruise on a high note aboard a one-way flight from Milford to Queenstown. After discovering Milford Sound from the sea, board the plane for a spectacular aerial view of alpine scenery including glaciers, rivers, and rainforests. A courtesy shuttle delivers you from Milford Wharf to the airstrip located only minutes away.

Please note: Flights are weather dependent. If due to unfavorable weather conditions the flight does not operate, you will return to Queenstown by luxury coach and be refunded the difference.

A great Milford Mariner cruise

We cannot fault any aspect of this trip - the accommodation was clean and comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful and did all they could to make our cruise and coach journey thoroughly enjoyable. The food on the boat was fantastic, thanks to the marvellous Maori chef and the evening talk and slideshow were fascinating. In spite of adverse weather, the staff managed to keep our spirits up all the time so that the water-based activities still took place and were fun. The time-keeping was impeccable. I would thoroughly recommend this tour. Thank you, Real Journeys!

Everything about this was fantastic. The bus charter is comfy, and the driver was excellent. You stop at a few amazing sites to Milford. The boat and crew were INCREDIBLE and so friendly. The food was also surprisingly great. And Milford Sound is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. This was the best tour I’ve ever been on, can’t say enough wonderful things about it.

Almost perfect

The overnight cruise was superb. The crew was very knowledgable and welcoming, and the caving bedding was super comfortable—our best night’s sleep of the whole trip. We saw penguins, seals and dolphins. However I can’t give them 5 stars because we booked a scenic flight for our return to Queenstown and were left standing for 40 minutes at the Milford airport. It is an outdoor, buggy airstrip with no restrooms or seating. And we we got just a 30 minute flight, not the 45 - 60 we were promised. Otherwise a great experience.

Great opportunity to be on one of the prettiest places on the planet. The food on board was excellent and the crew knowledgeable and fun. The only downfall was the sandflies that can eat you alive so be warned. An excellent addition to any time you are down in the extraordinary New Zealand South Island.

Very beautiful! It rained for part of our trip, but the guys still went out in the kayaks and had a great time. The waterfalls everywhere and the shear cliffs above us were spectacular. I'm sure the rain made for the increase in water production for the waterfalls. The food was even good.

Phenomenal! There were only 14 of us on this cruise so I'm sure our experience was more intimate than that if the boat was full up to 60 I think. Staff was awesome and food was fabulous. Of course the highlight was the hundreds of waterfalls we got to see since it had been raining a ton for days on end. No sunshine but still amazing. Accommodations were small but adequate.

Great trip! Milford Sound is amazing! I recommend staying and doing the overnight as it is a long drive if you are coming from Queenstown. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I tried to return to Queenstown the same day. The staff were wonderful, the food was great and it was fun meeting people from other places. Beware of the sand flies, they are everywhere!

Wow! An absolute must! Got up at 5am for the sunrise and what a site! Guide was brilliant on the way there and you will not got a better view than the plan back to queenstown! Only downside was load mouthed yanks, only interested in getting drunk and being stupid (not all of them)
