A Fun Day

Mindo is a tourist destination close to Quito. Most of the visitors seem to be Ecuadorian. Our guide was extremely accommodating and allowed us to spend as little or as much time as we wanted at each stop. We tried to be quick as we wanted to allow time to see the chocolate factory. Our guide took us to the original Center of the World monument which is in a small square a few miles from the new one. The actual equator is a about 200 m away and has another marker. We then stopped at the hummingbird/tucan viewing area. There were many of both including one rare species of tucan. We then drove to the cable car and hiked to the closest waterfall. The hike is not long and the waterfall very nice. There is some elevation gain on the way back to the cablecar. Next stop was the butterfly sanctuary which was very well done and nice to see. Final stop was the Mindo Chocolate factory where we were given a tour and samples. We also had a late lunch in their restaurant. The traffic getting back to Quito was fairly heavy, so we returned to the hotel a bit later in the day then we expected.

Viator “oversold “this tour and canceled.

Unfortunately, Viator canceled my trip before the scheduled date. They said they had “oversold“ this excursion and decided to cancel ours. They did offer to do the tour on a different day but that did not work with my schedule. Fortunately, I found another excellent tour company (greathornedowltours.com) that was willing and able to provide a wonderful Mindo cloud forest experience. Our guide, Juan Carlos, and the driver, Luis, were excellent. I highly recommend greathornedowltours.com and Juan Carlos for a wonderful Mindo cloud Forest experience.

We arrived in Quito downtown and had the next day to kill. We had already spent enough time in Quito so we looked on Viator for a trip some other travelers had recommended to us. This is like 7:00 in the evening before we were hoping to take the trip. We booked expecting nothing good to happen. On the contrary!! We got an immediate email confirmation. The next morning at 8:00 our wonderful guide Andes arrived and made a fantastic day for us. He even arranged the most perfect lunch for us and was gracious enough to join us. He called a friend and arranged to do some fun experiments on the equator on the way back. And that after hiking, waterfalls, butterflies, hummingbirds, and a fab lunch. Could not have been a better day!

Great experience

A great trip. First we visit the hummingbirds (a private garden with lots of birds to watch). Drove to the cloud forrest and took the open cable car to the other side of the wally and walked down to the water fall and then up to the car park again. Amazing nature and at one point a tree had fallen down blocking the part but we got through it. Then lunch and a visit to a chocolate factory (they guide there was very funny). Drove back to Quinto. All in all it was a fun day and we got some great experiences and a very good talk with the guide about many other things related to Ecuador.

A great day trip to the little town of Mindo, highlighted by visits to see hummingbirds, butterflies, and orchids, along with a scenic cable car ride and visit to a chocolate factory. Great guide

I had a great trip to cloud forest and Mindo in large part due to my guide, Christian. Unfortunately I did not get to see many birds but the landscape was beautiful and Christian was knowledgeable and enjoyable. The hike was a bit challenging for me and then what was intended as a 1.5-2 hour hike turned into 3 1/2 hours as the cable car malfunctioned and we had to walk out. He was patient and helpful as I struggled to complete the hike. I am grateful for his kindness and positivity as it was a bit embarrassing as I have done much harder hikes just a few yrs before but clearly my fitness had deteriorated. I enjoyed my day w Christian and want to say anyone would be lucky to have him as your guide.

Hugo was excellent! Very nice and knowledgeable. The restaurant he recommended was delicious. Overall a great day. I would’ve given it 5 stars but the ‘bird watching’ was a huge let down. We paid to see the hummingbird feeders hanging in someone’s backyard. Not at all the way it was presented.
