What You Can Expect

Small-Group Day Tour of Moët et Chandon and Taittinger with Champagne Tasting from Reims

Visit of Taittinger's cellars

Meet your guide and small group at the tour office in front of the Gare de Reims, the main railway station. You'll board an 8-passenger minivan for a full-day tour that includes two Champagne tastings.

Relax on the 30-minute drive to Épernay where you'll start with a guided tour of Moët & Chandon, a prestigious French winery and Champagne house that produces Dom Pérignon. Learn about the corresponding history of its namesake, a 17th-century Benedictine monk who finalized the production process, and sip a glass of the world-renowned vintage.

Stroll along the Avenue de Champagne while your guide points out the many opulent Maisons de Champagne, including Perrier-Jouët and Mercier with their massive cellars holding Champagne collections. Back on board your vehicle, you'll  travel through a Marne Valley vineyard to see the grave of Dom Pérignon in the church of the former Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers.

Lunch is at your leisure upon your guide's recommendation (own expense), before a guided tour of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Reims, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, built in the 13th century. Marvel at the impressive stained glass windows and ‘Smiling Angel’ among some 2,000 statues on the Gothic structure. Most of France’s kings were crowned here. Continue your sightseeing of Reims, where you may recognize illustrious names such as Veuve Cliquot and Pommery.

Next is a tour and Champagne tasting at Taittinger, whose grapes are evenly distributed over 34 different vineyards; they include some of the appellation’s finest, with varietals consisting of 50% pinot noir, 15% pinot meunier, and 35% chardonnay.

Your tour concludes with return transport to the starting point.

Please note: wineries visited are subject to availability. Taittinger may be replaced by Mumm or Pommery, and Moët & Chandon may be replaced by Mercier or De Castellane.

This was a great day trip from Paris. The tour guide picks you up right outside of Reims train station so it's very easy to take the Paris train in time for the tour. Our guide, Amanda, was very knowledgeable about the region and the history of champagne. The cellars were very impressive as well as seeing the Notre Dame of Reims. The only thing is our tour group wished we had more time for lunch so we could taste more of the local champagnes available for tasting in the area. A must do tour if you are a fan of champagne!

The tour was excellent, the tour guide well versed in the history of the places we visited, the visit to the wine cellars and the vineyards opened our eyes to the making and distributing of champagne and the scenery was picture -post card material. We are ready to go back. This is the second tour we arranged with Viator and so far the experience has been well-worth it.

I really enjoyed this tour. Our guide Amanda was very knowledgeable about the region. She took us on an interesting tour of the Reims cathedral where we learned more than we would have on our own. Both tours of Moet et Chandon and Taittinger were really great although I enjoyed the tour and guide at Taittinger slightly more due to the emphasis on the historic significance or the cellar. We enjoyed the tastings at both houses - I recommend upgrading to the vintage tasting at Moet et Chandon. Amanda took us to see the tomb of Dom Perignon and stopped at a lovely viewpoint so we could capture the beautiful vineyards in their fall colors. I highly recommend this tour as a way to experience the Champagne region and all of its finery.

The tour guide was very cordial and knowledgable. The tour group was small enough to hear the guide easily and all questions were welcome. It was well organized and the entire process of champagne making from growing grapes to the final product were well covered. The trip was worth every penny.
