What You Can Expect

Day Trip from Reykjavik: Hiking and Hot Springs Adventure in Reykjadalur and Hveragerdi

Half-Day Trip from Reykjavik: Hiking in the Outskirts of Reykjadalur and Hveragerdi

Begin with a pickup from your Reykjavik hotel, and set off on your 7-hour trip by comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.
Admire Iceland's ethereally beautiful landscapes as you journey southwest, and after roughly an hour, enter the Reykjadalur Valley, a geothermal area below Mt Hengill, an active volcano ridge, where hot springs burst from the ground to form bubbling pools and lagoons.

Arrive on the outskirts of the greenhouse town of Hverageroi, and hear how its famous hothouses use the natural underground heat  to grow flowers, fruit and vegetables all year round.

Hop out of your vehicle, and follow your guide on a leisurely hike through Reykjadalur’s hills. As you walk, listen to stories of Iceland’s past, and stop to admire the abundance of geothermal features, from gurgling hot ponds and turquoise pools to rushing rivers, all emitting plumes of warm steam and each evidence of Hengill’s activity below ground.

Hike around the base of Hellisheiði mountain past gushing springs and take a break from your hike beside a naturally heated pool.  If you wish, enjoy a relaxing bathe in the inviting hot waters, letting the warmth envelop you as you soak in the beautiful setting.

Suitably refreshed, continue your relaxed hike back to Hveragerði. Finally, drive back to Reykjavik where your trip ends with a hotel drop-off.

I loved this trip. It was a wonderful hike through beautiful landscape to the ideal hot springs. Theses springs are as natural as their surroundings. This is a good option for anyone who wants to get themselves out into some Icelandic scenery.

The guide was really helpful and patient, especially since the hike was more difficult for me than I anticipated, and let me borrow some trekking poles. The hot spring area is really beautiful and there is a waterfall on the way to them. I thoroughly enjoyed the hike.

This tour was amazing. We lucked out with the weather as well. Parts of the path were a little muddy due to a previous days rain and some parts are narrow. The hike is a solid 4 km each direction. It is not strenuous but if one is concerned about their steadiness on their feet it is probably not for you. Hiking boots and not shoes are best. Our guide Woi was lovely and very accommodating.

A stunning hike through the hills with extraordinary views. When at the top we bathed in the hot spring water, which was incredible. The hike was about 5 miles from start to finish and not too strenuous. If you enjoy walking me and views, I highly recommend this tour!

Absolutely breathtaking scenery!!! Stunning views!!! Hike was not strenuous, went along streams and geysers and hot pools, green valleys and volcanic rock - this is a "must do" in Iceland!!! Hiking shoes are best for this one, a lunch, and a bathing suit - yes - those hot pools are the perfect temp!!! Loved it!!!!
