What You Can Expect

Small Group South Coast, Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach Adventure from Reykjavik

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Spend a day of adventure exploring the dramatic glaciers and ice-strewn landscape of Iceland’s southern coast during this 15-hour day trip. Over the course of your excursion you’ll take a hike on top of a glacier and see a gorgeous lagoon where huge slabs of floating ice make their way out to sea.

Start your day in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Reykjavík, continuing by comfortable coach through the incredible landscape of southern Iceland toward Vatnajökull National Park. Take a short break for lunch (at own expense) in the town of Skaftafell, which borders the park’s entrance, then head into the park for a walk on Virkisjökull Glacier.

Before stepping onto this giant ice sheet, receive a short safety briefing and strap on your crampons (special spikes for your shoes to prevent slipping). Then follow your highly trained and specially qualified guide out onto the glacier. As you walk among the craggy ice formations, check out the hulking mass of Vatnajökull Glacier in the distance, the largest ice formation in Iceland. Continue your walk through the surreal landscape of jagged ice crevasses and inky-deep sink holes. You’ll hear details from your guide about this incredible natural sight and learn how these massive ice formations move slowly out toward the sea.

Proceed next to Jökulsárlón Lagoon, one of the country’s top attractions. See the giant icebergs that have recently broken free of the glacier Breiðamerkurjökull, situated just behind the lagoon. It’s a visual that will linger in your mind long after you’ve left this stunning sight. Then head back to Reykjavík, arriving at your hotel in the evening.

Great tour and friendly staff. If adventure and/or living something different is your goal, definitely I recommend this trip. From starting the trip to the National Park, the road trip is a breath taking of great views of waterfalls, mountains, horses, farms, etc. When arrive to the National Park and the Lagoon, its just like you are inside of a postcard. An A must see and live!

Even though the weather was poor -rain and wind - the day was still picturesque. The glacier walk was great with good guides and the lagoon boat ride was spectacular. A long day but awe inspiring.

Best experience and definitely the highlight off my Iceland trip. We spent a good 12hrs in total but it was well and truly worth it. The countryside is beautiful and lined with waterfalls and their is free wifi on board incase you want to surf online. The glacier hike wasn't strenuous by any means, just fascinating and super fun. The lagoon was really gorgeous as well and there was plenty of time to walk around after the boat ride. We had an amazing weather on the day but I would recommend wet weather gear in the colder months.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better September 2012

It was so worth climbing the glacier! The iceburgs were beautiful. I was pleased with the service. The service and the guides didn't explain things well. Make sure you bring waterproof gear since they don't provide it. I wish there was a proper list of things to bring with you. A storm hit when we were climbing. Most of the people didn't have any change of clothes. We had to sit on the bus for 9 hours in soaking wet clothes! I didn't have a chance to go on the boat ride cause I was so cold after the hike. Just make sure you bring a bag of extra clothes and shoes to change into if you don't wear waterproof clothes. Still worth seeing it.
