Golden Circle Classic Day Trip from Reykjavik

Golden Circle Classic Day Trip from Reykjavik

Depart your central Reykjavik hotel or Reykjavik cruise port by air-conditioned coach and venture into Iceland’s starkly beautiful interior of rugged peaks, pastures and volcanic plains.
Make your first stop at Nesjavellir, a power plant in the geothermal region around Lake Thingvallavatn. Take in panoramic views of the plant that harnesses the area’s natural propensity for generating power, and hear how it produces renewable energy for more than half of Reykjavik's population.
Continue from here along the famous Golden Circle, the sightseeing route that showcases three of Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders.
Stop by at Thingvellir National Park, a region of untouched beauty steeped in ancient history. Learn how it’s home to the original, outdoor site of Iceland’s first parliamentary assembly, the Althingi, that began in 930, and see the extraordinary Thingvellir rift, where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia face each other over a narrow valley.
Snap photos as your guide explains how the plates are gradually pulling apart, and then continue to the Gullfoss waterfall. Marvel at the double-tiered falls and, with luck, catch sight of one of the famous rainbows that forms in the mists.
Next, visit the incredible geothermal region of Geysir, known for its hot springs and geysers. Take in the bubbling pools and steam vents, and see Strokkur, a waterspout that shoots to around 98 feet (30 meters) in the air.
Your tour then ends back at the original start point in Reykjavik.

Great full day out tour from Reykjavik visiting lots of interesting sights in the weird and ever changing volcanic landscape. We arrived by cruise ship to the port a few kms from the centre about 10 to 12 people form our ship in total and were picked up promptly on the day by the coach we stayed in all day - which was very modern and comfortable. A previous review suggests they don't pick up from here but we had emailed the company beforehand and they assured us they did emailing back in English perfectly. Excellent, knowledgeable English speaking guide and local driver. As recommended by the guide the lamb soup at the waterfall is very tasty but not cheap and more like a stew than a soup. Good amount of time at each stop and most but not all had bathroom facilities. Some charge 200 KR to use but you can pay with your card in the shop and get a token if you don't have Icelandic coins. Really good introduction to this area and a well worth while trip that was good value for money.

Great way to see these highlights of Iceland particularly those who do not rent a car and go it alone.
Tour guide was knowledgeable but not so easy to follow as his voice was a bit of a monotone. The sites were spectacular...amazing to see the continental divide of the Asian and the Atlantic tectonic plates.
Well worth the time.

Great tour that promised all that it was written up to be. This was a great value and hit all the highlights one can see in a day. Great alternative to expensive cruiseship tour doing the same itinerary.

Enjoyed the sights and seeing the Gulfoss waterfalls and Geysir. I also loved the Icelandic ponies we could pet and play with at the end. Great tour guide history teacher who was very knowledgeable and funny.
