What You Can Expect

Golden Circle Gourmet Food Tasting Tour

Visit the Gullfoss waterfall on this full-day foodie trip

Although Iceland isn’t typically known for its cuisine (yet!), Reykjavik and surrounds are home to a burgeoning foodie scene inspired by the region’s bounty of fresh meats, fish and dairy. Begin your full-day culinary tour with pickup at your Reykjavík hotel, or meet your guide at the centrally located Hafnarstræti, and climb aboard a comfortable coach.
To give your appetite a chance to warm up, make a pit stop at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Thingvellir National Park. Learn about the geologic and political history of this protected area, which spans two tectonic plates and was the founding site of Iceland’s parliament in 930.
For your first bite of the day, enjoy a hearty, farm-fresh meal at Efstidalur, a modern working farm. Learn about small-scale Icelandic dairy, fish and game industries while savoring specialties produced right on site, such as feta cheese, homemade bread, roast beef and trout caught from the nearby river Útey. Top it off with a taste of a milky drink passed down by the Vikings!
Take some time to digest with a visit to the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall and surrounding volcanic fields dotted with geothermal hot springs and geysers. Make your way to a local greenhouse, where farmers have learned to cultivate Mediterranean vegetables like tomatoes even in the chilly northern climate.
Your final stop is Islenskibærin, a classic Nordic turf house. Settle in to a cozy dining room under the green roof for a sampling of regional favorites like smoked lamb, flatbread, dried fish and pancakes topped with rhubarb jelly.
Your stomach satisfied, relax on the return drive to Reykjavik, where your tour concludes with hotel drop-off in the early evening.

Very good tour with excellent guide. As you would expect from the title, this is a repeat of the Golden circle Tour with the food stops added. A great experience.

What can I say, this tour was fabulous. Our guide and driver, Willie, was great. He was very informative and a lot of fun. Our tour was longer than scheduled, but it was worth the extra time he took with our small group. He made sure we took in all the scheduled sights and then some. I highly recommend this tour of Grayline. The meal was great except being served horse along with the lamb and beef. I gave mine to Willie. Otherwise, the taste of the lunch at the farm was very delicious. It was nice seeing a working farm. Also, the greenhouse stop and sampling was good. Got to see the Icelandic horses. The stop at the turf house was very interesting and the host was most gracious. He prepared some treats for us to eat along with our tea or coffee. Willie is top notch. A bit pricey but well worth it.

Absolutely the best way to see the Golden Circle. Our tour guide Darum? was awesome. She was very nice and helpful. She also knew so much about the history of the country and she even shared some of her own personal family experiences. In this tour we not only got to see all of the famous golden circle locations, but we also had tons of fabulous food and we learned so much about food production in Iceland. If you're a foodie, then this is the tour for you. If you like to eat, then this is the tour for you.

The Delicious Golden Circle Food Tour was a full day of amazing sights and flavors! We first explored Pingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Home to Icelands largest natural lake and the place where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia split and are drifting apart. The rift valley is also the location of Icelands original Viking parliament.

Gullfoss Golden Waterfall- the two-tier waterfalls on the Hvítá River White River are a stunning sight. Glacial meltwater cascades down into the deep and narrow Hvítárgljúfur canyon. Next we walked through the Geysir geothermal area, home to the Stokkur hot spring which blasts water up to 65 feet into the air.

Our Golden Circle Tour included stopping at peaceful Efstidalur, where we were served a farm-to-table lunch. Nearby Fridheimar, powered by green energy, proudly served the sweetest tomatoes, juices, chutneys, and jams. Out tasting continued at Islemski Baerinns turf-house kitchen, where we indulged in some traditional Icelandic delicacies blueberry chocolates, crepes stuffed with Chantilly cream, Christmas cake, and savory mini-sandwiches. Our tour guide, Halli, serenaded us with his saxophone. He told us that within the past 48 hours, there were 61 earthquakes 6 that were between 2-3 on the Richter Scale.
