Spectacular day seeing the volcano

We had a great hike to see the volcano with James and it was just spectacular!! I will never forget it and neither will my daughter I am sure!! It is a bit of a steep climb but so worth it and coming back down was a bit of a narrow path but if you take care it is fine. So recommend this to anyone who has the chance to go!!

Nice tour very reasonable price

Of course it would have been nice to see some volcanic activity but you can’t predict when that happens. The tour was nice. The guide was attentive, although once we arrived and started walking up, everyone kinda split up and did their own thing till it was time to get back. The wind was extremely strong that day and you have to hold on to the rocks for dear life sometimes. Aside from that I did not find the hike extremely difficult at all. You basically just go up to the viewing point and back down. The guide stopped at a geothermal pool on the way back which was nice! It looked like Yellowstone

Glad I tried it

We did this tour at the same time that hurricane Larry came to Iceland. That said, the wind gusts were roughly 65 mph which made it very challenging for this 67 year old lady. I didn't make it all the way, but I did see actual lava so I'm still glad I gave it my best shot. Have good hiking boots as some of the terrain is steep with a lot of lava rocks. I did meet many lovely locals, who offered to give me a hand when I was struggling.

Experience of a Lifetime with an Incredible Guide

I traveled in June 2021 as a solo traveler on my 2nd trip to Iceland. Though I had heard the volcano was somewhat easily accessible, I felt more comfortable going with a guide. This tour was AMAZING. Pickup of our small group was fast, and our guide made sure we were equipped with the extras we may not have brought ourselves - extra thick gloves, trekking poles, even extra layers (it was cooler and MUCH windier than expected!). We made it to the more or less "standard" observation spot via the dirt and gravel path from the parking area, and that first eruption was spectacular! We watched it erupt several times from that spot, but then went so much further, exploring different observation points with different views. These are areas that I never would have attempted myself, and I was so glad to have the expertise (and encouragement, as the trek was sometimes difficult!) of our guide. I cannot recommend this tour enough, worth every penny and more!

Our trip was amazing!...

Our trip was amazing! There wasn’t any lava that day, but it was still smoking, and we got to walk along the freshly made lava that was only ten days old. Hiking up was challenging but totally doable if you’re reasonably in shape. Overall, it was an invigorating and fantastic experience! Our guide was very nice and very knowledgeable. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of the full five is the lack of covid precautions on the bus. About 2/3 of the guests were not wearing masks at all on the bus ride, including the guide. Mask wearing wasn’t even brought up or encouraged on the bus. That said, I encountered the same issue with another tour group so this doesn’t seem unique to viator. It’s just something to keep in mind if you are at all covid cautious. Overall, we still had a great time.

Unbelievable!

Phenomenal experience! We were fortunate enough to be front and center when a fissure erupted on Sept. 15. Our guide was wonderful—he gave us history on the volcano during our trip, and then was very informative on the hike. He kept us safe, but also gave us an opportunity to see everything.

Life Changing Experience

This was without a doubt the most incredible experience of my lifetime! Jonas was an amazing guide. The weather was bad but he didn’t give up. He got us to the volcano and we got to watch it explode from the Earth while feeling the heat on our faces. I will remember this for the rest of my life and I am so grateful!

Excellent service. Excellent guide. Great hike.

We were picked up at a bus stop just a few minute walk from our hotel. The driver, Aynar (sp?) was also our hiking guide. He was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable. Very attentive. He explained very well how the hike would happen. He had twelve or so people in the tour, so there is a large span of fitness and ability that he had to account for as well as many different languages. He handled it all very well. Yes, there were some people in our group who had to turn around. And, yes, some people in our group waited while some of us went on to the lava fields. No one got lost. Everything was great. The paths taken from one day to the next can vary depending on where the lava flows have blocked off.

Once in a lifetime!

Amazing day with Pedro our guide! Went up trail A before it was officially closed, Pedromade sure we were safe even though group was of wide ability and hiked to different points based on gas levels, lava views and steepness of trails! Saw amazing crater, lots of lava fields and active lava flow! Was lucky to be in Reykjavik during height of volcano activity! Highly recommend but be safe!
