What To Expect

After early pickup from your Reykjavik hotel, board a vehicle destined for the Langjökull Glacier—the second-largest glacier in Iceland. On arrival at the glacier, step onto the ice and begin your descent into the atmospheric ice caves below.

In a specially modified glacier vehicle, ride through magical ice tunnels to a man-made glacier cave. As you ride, learn about the effects global warming has on the ice caves and watch the ice melt and transform before your eyes.

After hearing more about the history and geology of the ice caves, travel to the inviting warmth of Hotel Húsafell to enjoy lunch (at own expense). Satisfied, continue to the Borgarfjörður valley—famed for its fertile farmlands and volcanic beauty—and visit the magnificent Hraunfossar falls. Capture photographs of the natural landmark and then relax during the journey back to Reykjavik hotel, where the tour concludes.

Langjokull Glacier

You will go on a short 35-45 minute ride to the top of the glacier from Húsafell, from which you will descend into the ice cave to witness the wonders of Iceland's second-largest glacier from the inside. You will spend approx 2 & 1/2 hours on the glacier with transfers to the glacier. But be aware that this depends on conditions on the glacier.

2 hours 30 minutesAdmission Ticket Included

Hraunfossar

Crystal clear water that emerges from the volcanic rock lava field and falls down into Hvitá (white river), a beautiful turquoise glacial river steaming from the Langjökull glacier.

Super cool family experience
Lindsey_G, Feb 2022
Great staff who were friendly and informative. We had some confusion on the pick up location in the morning. We were able to contact someone in their office who called the driver and then that person on the phone was able to direct us to the correct location. Really great day trip!
Response from Host, Mar 2022
Thank you Lindsey for taking time in writing us this review. We are glad to see you have a "cool" experience on the glacier. Hope you will visit us again and visit even more of Iceland.

A great experience made easy and all the more pleasurable by the team. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Iceland and recommend Viator as the operator, cost effective and easy.

Ice Cave Experience from Reykjavik
Judy M, Nov 2019
This was my favorite excursion on our week-long tour of Iceland. Our guide was especially mindful of his guests as we were walking on ice. Touring the inside of a glacier is an experience not to be missed! Highly recommend this tour.

Into the Ice in Iceland!

This is a must do tour! Absolutely incredible. Traveling onto the glacier and walking into the glacier underground tunnels and caves was a major highlight for me. The Langjökull glacier is amazing.

This was certainly a once in a lifetime event. My children (8 and 9) really enjoyed the educational aspect as well as the overwhelming awesomeness of being inside a glacier! I highly recommend this tour.

Ice Cave
Michael_v, Jun 2019
The tour through the inside of a glacier was amazing! Much easier walking than I had imagined. I did not need to borrow any warm or water proof items- however, they were available to those who were in need - free of charge... a very nice thing to have if you needed.

Awesome Experience!
Kimberly_S, Jan 2019
This was one of the best parts of our trip. How often do you get to walk on a glacier and then go inside. All of the guides were fantastic and extremely knowledgable. They took safety very serious. Will go again when we go back. A must see on any trip to Iceland!

Ice cave and glacier
Bret_G, Jan 2019
The whole tour from beginning to end was well put together, our tour guide to the glacier was entertaining and passionate about Iceland. The ice cave and glacier experience was something else our guide sang a lullaby in the chapel ‘awesome’. Not a cheap trip (then nothing is in Iceland) but worth every penny.

Antoinette_P, Dec 2018
Our trip was amazing it’s like you are on another world, it snowed really heavily, the ice truck is amazing to travel up the glacier. The ice cave was so good, the guide bane was really nice and informative. Definitely worth the money you learn a lot and get to see some waterfalls on the way back.
Fun and Interesting
Jacquelyn_G, Dec 2018
We were picked up n Reykjavik by the cpmpany Reykjavik Sightseeing and our guides Amelia and driver Danny were great. They had everything well organized. They then transferred us to our guides Edith and Hekla for our ride up the glacier in a converted military vehicle. The ride was exciting and provided some nice views of the mountain and valley. The ice cave is an amazing piece of planning and engineering. You need to wear boots or they will provide them for you, and they give you crampons to put over them. You need to be comfortable being enclosed and walking on ice, the crampons prevent slippage. The cave is beautiful shades of blue. The guides explained the layers and how the cave was created. I really enjoyed this tour.

Would like to say that it was a great adventure and a wonderful trip. Our guide in the cave sang a song for us to hear the acoustic in the ice chapel. We loved the ravens Huginn and Muninn. Walking on and in a glacier is an amazing experience!

Ok so tunnel experience itself- very cool! Tour guides- fantastic! However we were the first trip up for the day and therefore the ones to forge the way through the snow. The truck ended up not working so well and what should have taken 4 hours took 9.5 hrs. So, I would say do not pick to be the first tour group. lol

If you are going to Iceland, I wouldn't miss the Ice Cave. That being said, know that it is a man-made cave because real ice caves are too dangerous to enter. Also it is the largest form of pollution in Iceland. It is still incredibly beautiful and it is going to be there whether you take the tour or not, so you might as well go in. It is quite the experience. One piece of advice. Do not wear transition glasses on the ride over! My glasses turned very dark in the truck and when I walked into the cave, due to the cold, they would not lighten and I couldn't see. I thought I would have to miss the tour because I am blind without them. Luckily, I had electric gloves and put them in and finally they cleared up enough for the tour!!!
