What You Can Expect

Into the Glacier: Langjökull Glacier Ice Cave Day Trip from Reykjavik plus Hraunfossar Waterfall

Step inside a glacier on this incredible day trip

Iceland’s otherworldly landscape is filled with wintry wonders fit for a giant. This full day of exploration begins with morning pickup at your Reykjavik hotel in a comfortable coach or minivan. Your first stop is Hraunfossar waterfall, where dozens of cascades stream over a rocky expanse into a milky-blue pool below.
After a local break for lunch (own expense), continue on to the outer edge of Langjökull glacier — the second largest in Iceland. Climb aboard a modified glacier vehicle for your journey across the ice to the entrance of the 1,650-foot (500-meter) tunnel system. Into the Glacier is a series of man-made tunnels and caves allows you to explore the innards of the icy mass for a totally unique experience. Strap on crampons to explore the tunnels by foot, and wander through caves illuminated by a series of glowing electric lights embedded behind the ice.
During the summer months (June 15 to September 15), the tour includes a bonus stop at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Thingvellir National Park. Learn about the unique geology and history of the park, which sits at the intersection of the European and North American tectonic plates and was the founding site of Iceland’s first parliament in 930 AD.
Your tour concludes in the evening with drop-off back at your Reykjavik hotel.

This was a great tour. On the way to the glacier we got to stop at a couple geothermal sites which were beautiful and awe inspiring. When we got close to the glacier, there were beautiful waterfalls, and volcanoes that kept you wanting more. When we actually got to the glacier it was absolutely stunning, and getting to go inside the glacier was an experience I will never forget. This tour was educational, beautiful, fun, and adventurous. Worth every penny.

This was an absolutely awesome experience. And to think it took 14 months to create this ice tunnel inside the glacier after several years of planning. I was grateful that Viator was able to pick me up at our cruise ship even though it was not the norm for this excursion. A friend booked us with Viator to the Blue Lagoon on this trip, too. Another awesome experience. Iceland is such a beautiful place.

Excellent tour. Wear warm clothing or the company will provide it for you--no problem. The walking is not strenuous at all other than being careful since you are walking on ice.
