This trip was amazing, we were lucky and saw very active northern lights the night that we decided to go! We had booked it for the next night, but decided to go the night before we booked because the sky was clear and they were predicting strong northern lights. The company is very flexible and they provide warm overalls, which is important out on the water.
The wintersuits were warm, and we got to see the lights! Our trip was postponed from 10 to midnight due to weather, but it was well worth it because we got a better view of the night sky.
A fun tour even though we only saw 2 glimpses and a hint of green lights as we were starting to head back to the harbor. If you are proud to sea sickness, this isn't the tour for you.
Boat trip was great, unfortunately not a lot of Northern Lights action. On our first boat trip there was too much cloud cover so we did not see any Northern Lights. We were given another complimentary ticket to come back as we did not see the Northern Lights. Our second boat trip was safe and good, with a slight glimmer of the Northern Lights. Again, not much action so we have another complimentary ticket should we return again to Iceland. Nothing wrong with the boat trip, you are just relying upon a natural phenomenon. Visited in October 2016.
Didn't get to see the lights but you can keep trying if that happens lifetime guarantee!. The first night was too choppy so they organised a bus to go into the countryside instead. They provided us with cosy overalls on the boat and gave us plenty information on both the bus and the boat actually. As the night wore on, they gave us a free hot drink - I don't think this was ordinarily included, it was just quite rough and cold so they were being nice. Even though I didn't get to see the lights, they tried their best and I had a great time.
The harbour isn't perfectly dark but they go out a fair distance and it's an experience unto itself.

Worked out perfectly. We saw the show from the boat bingo. September is a very good time of the year to see the dancing Northern Lights!
We saw a truly spectacular display of northern lights on a clear night in the bay of Reykjavik. The warm jumpsuits were great to have as we watched from the top deck of the boat. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave a great explanation of the science behind what we were experiencing. Great tour!
The night was perfect. There was only a sliver of the moon showing so it was perfectly dark for viewing stars and showers of green light. The girl narrating from the bridge was very knowledgable about the night sky and the man reciting the poem was delightful! We all were very blessed to be there!!
My tour was nothing short of spectacular! We went very late in the season and were not expecting to see any lights. Turns out we saw lights from the beginning to the end of our tour. The stories, poems, and songs were an additional bonus. I highly recommend this your to anyone who goes to Iceland!
You're at the mercy of Mother Nature on this one...but we lucked out and saw a great show! The tour operators were great - just be sure to get there early to get a good seat on the top deck! It gets crowded.
Our Cruise was cancelled the first night but there was no problem to move it for other day or get the money back, so we moved for the next night, we had a fantastic time. It's worth going at this Cruise. It's something you have to see for yourself :
We were very luck to see the Northern Light display as soon as the boat left the harbor far enough.
These tours, like everything we did in Reykjavik, were really well organized and friendly. The boats provide coveralls to keep you warm - these are 1 very needed and 2 in good condition - make sure you wear plenty of layers as well though.
The trip only runs if there's at least some chance you'll see lights. We got super lucky and went out on a night when there was a truly awesome northern lights show. Obviously, there's nothing anyone can do to guarantee you get to see them, but I really got the impression that effort was being made to ensure we got the best possible experience.
Fantastic trip. Very cold but definitely worth it as saw a wonderful display of the aurora borealis. You have an option of a larger boat which is a bit slower but more comfortable or a smaller boat which is faster. Warm coveralls to help with the cold and a snack bar on both means you can keep warm with a hot cup of something wet. We selected the smaller boat which was faster and fun when they sped up on the way back. Definitely a must when in Iceland.
We saw the Northern Lights!!!! So amazing. We really enjoyed the cruise. Totally worth the wait and the cold. However, it may be a bit difficult to take nice pictures with a standard camera as the boat moves a lot with the waves. So, if you are there for the pictures, maybe the bus tour is more recommendable.
Even though it was spitting with rain, and incredibly cloudy, we managed to see the lights! The boat trip itself was fun being able to speed away from the distance of Reykjavik's lights and over into darkness. The lady operating the tour was lots of fun! She kept us entertained whilst waiting for any sign of the lights.
We couldn't be happier with this tour. After a few nights of cancellation due to cloudy weather, we finally had a 'go' for the trip. We saw amazing colors with moving lights. It was a sight we won't forget.
The tour was amazing. We saw an absolutely spectacular show even the guide was genuinely amazed by it.
Great trip .The Northern Lights are not guarantee every night it depends on cloud cover etc but if they cancel the trip or you go out and dont see anything they let you go on another day free of charge so go at the beginning of your stay so you have time if you go again.Having said that we were very lucky and saw a good wonderful display from mother nature.Be aware your camera has to be set up right to capture the lights the crew can advise you and sometimes they post the nights photos taken by the crew on their facebook page. Wrap up warm and also put on the warm suits they let you borrow people who did put the suits on stayed inside most of the time because it was so cold.My wife and I stayed outside the whole 3 hours it was a trip I will never forget. When you get back to the harbour the minibus is waiting for you to take you home very well organised.
Great trip to see northern lights. Hotel pick up was great and boat and crew were lovely. saw the lights after about 20 mins at sea and they were still there when we docked. One tip if you are not sure how to take pictures of the lights there is a professional photographer on board who can help you set your camera up.
Saw the lights as we were setting off out of port, great experience and lovely crew.
Well organized and pleasant. The tour announcer was delightful and added so much to the experience. He really gave his all and we appreciated it. Having to entertain a crowd for two hours in a monologue is not easy, but he did it smooth as silk.
We went for the cruise as soon as we arrived in Reykjavik and it was REALLY cold. There are overalls and hot beverages on board and they were essential. The tour was fun and enjoyable when everybody was looking into the sky hoping to find the light. We didn't have any luck seeing the northen light due to poor weather but was offered a second chance for free. I highly recommend the cruise tour but do check the forcast before booking.
Even though we did not really get to see the lights, the entertainment between the poetry reading and Maria was really great. We were given the option to go again but due to the weather were unable to but had an awesome 4 course dinner which was really great. Highly recommended.
We were initially hesitant to go out when the bus picked us up in the rain, but after riding out the bad weather on the boat, we were treated to some beautiful displays of Northern Lights. The crew was knowledgeable and friendly, and even helped me set up my DSLR for taking photos of the lights. The snow suits kept us warm on deck, and we ended up glad that we made the trip!
