We were initially a little disappointed to end up as part of a larger group than we expected because the tours had been delayed by weather the previous nights, but it worked out very well and we were pleased that others who didn't see lights on their first chance were able to do so this time. The information is very clear that this may happen and we knew what the weather had been like, so we weren't too surprised by the larger but very manageable group size.
We ended up in the mountains with a very nice display of northern lights and fairly clear skies. The next day we talked to some other people and learned that they had taken a large motor coach for a northern lights tour and been unable to find clear skies, let alone seeing any displays of aurora. Those buses couldn't get into the areas where our tour went. Overall, we were very pleased and the guides did a great job.
The super jeep tour is the way to go. It's a smaller group of people and they are able to take you off-roading so you get the best view. the night I went, the level of light was on lower end of the scale, but we were still able to see it. The one guide took photos of us in front of the lights and taught us how to set our cameras so we could take our own pictures. It was such a cool experience.
Great night out! We saw the light very quickly within 30 mins or so from departure. They also took photos for us on their camera which is a big bonus. Definitely go for a super jeep tour as they can get you to more secluded places that normal vehicle just won't be able to go on.
We had a great guide, Gisly, who made the trip very interesting and fun. Did not see the lights that night, but went the next night at no charge and saw them. Guide on night 2 was Clemmie, also very nice and knowledgeable. Arctic Adventures was the local company in Iceland and we would highly recommend them!
This is really a ten star tour. Picked up promptly and really easy. The giant jeeps were awesome with about 15 people tops on it we did a caravan of three jeeps. We were incredibly fortunate as the northern lights forecast was updated at 9 pm and we were expecting a 7 out of 8 on the scale. We went off road into a field and it was mesmerizing! The guides were awesome. Obvious that they love what they do. Took its of pictures of us all as the camera sees them much better than the human eye. Stars everywhere. They had snacks of hot chocolate, cookies, and an Icelandic alcohol. Wonderful. We stayed several hours. We were so glad we went our first night as,we met several people that went the next night and saw nothing. Very. Very cold and windy when we were there so dress on lots of layers. I wore full ski gear including ski pants. This made it quite comfortable
WOW! This tour company is amazing. They are professionals at constellation readings, weather reports, and fun. We had a wonderful experience and we were taken right to where the northern lights could be seen. Additionally it was as great surprise to be serviced hot chocolate and shots of vodka. :-
There are several northern lights tours to choose from but I thought this experience was excellent. Do not let the higher cost deter you, as this is a small group and you are able to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this phenomenon with personal photos to capture the moment.
We were lucky enough to get to see the northern lights on our first try, however, not without a little work! Our drivers were great in communicating with others in the area to find the best stop to view. We made about 3 different stops before getting to see a spectacular display! Money well spent
This was a spectacular experience. The vehicle was comfortable and could access all areas. We were told at the start that the rating to see the Lights that night was zero but we did see them very clearly. The guide is excellent and the whole tour has a really friendly vibe to it, with the shots and the hot chocolate helping to add to that.
We were fortunate to see the Northern Lights! And they danced for us! It was nice that the guide took his camera to take photos of us with the lights in the background! Thanks guys!
This tour was completely worth the money. We ended up be lucky enough to see the lights on a hillside overlooking a lake.... beautiful! One of the guides took photos that are free to download from the website afterwards. The smaller group made the night so much more intimate and personal.

There needs to be an 6th star for this review. Picked up at 9 pm from our hotel and made our way about 1 hour north of Reykjavik. Our driver was very knowledgeable about northern lights and area. Sorry I don't remember his name as we were very jet lagged. Our first stop with the moon reflecting off the water was beautiful, although a little windy and cold. Just a few lights. He was making some calls to see where the lights were showing up. I think there was 8 of us in the super jeep - quite roomy. We all piled back end and headed up a dirt road near a water fall named Gylmur. We never saw the waterfall but we could hear it in the distance. Absolutely quiet and beautiful sky....then the lights started...they grew and grew until they filled the sky! A huge check mark in this bucket list box. Also got some great pictures - guide was even a help with camera settings. Don't take a BUS or a BOAT....take the Small-Group Northern Lights Tour!! PS the hot chocolate and local cookies were a nice touch. Still dream of the Northern Lights!
this was just brilliant and highly recommend. Our main aim of the trip was the northern lights so decided to pay above the norm for the usual bus tour to ensure we get the best view of the lights.
The super jeep is amazing, as it gets to locations that the bus cannot get to.
there was about 13 of us so it was nice to be in a small group.
We actually saw the best lights ever on the day - it was the day when the city decided to turn off all the lights as the lights were predicted to be the best and it was !!! the location where we stopped was completely empty... there was no one else there!
The guide was brilliant - so kind and friendly.
Had some hot chocolate and some alcohol to keep us warm.
Would suggest if seeing the lights is high on your list pay extra for this tour!!! We stopped about 3 times in three locations all of which were empty and also the guide took pics on his super powerful camera which we then were provided a link to so we could get the awesome pics to print later on.
Great tour. Lucky for us the night was perfect and we saw awesome northern lights. Loved that the guide took photos with his special slow shutter camera!
Great trip - the guides were knowlegble and patient. Especially in helping is set up our cameras in manual mode so we could get some perfect pictures.
We arrived back at the hotel at 2 in the morning not being able to go to sleep still with the memories of an amazing evening!
If you want pics of northern lights - this is it - the best out there - absolutely loved it - don't bother with the others. Well worth the money.
Absolutely a great trip. Our tour guide Clemmie was awesome! We were like storm chasers in the night driving around looking for clear skies and the Northern Lights! We saw them at three different stops and they were spectacular! Clemmie explained how to use your camera to take pics which really helped a novice like me. And he even knows how to take pics of you with the northern lights in the background. So amazing. GO ON THIS TOUR!
Superb, it was freezing but loved witnessing the aurora borealis. The super jeep was comfortable and gets you to the best places to see the lights totally recommend this trip.

Excellent tour guide, nothing was too much trouble, we did finally see the lights!
Brilliant Trip with Clements a wonderful guide. We went on this trip two nights and highly recommend it. The guides are very knowledgable and take you off the beaten track
Nice tour - great guide! We saw lights! Be sure to check in as our 1st night tour was cancelled.
The tour guide was excellent and there being only seven people in the super jeep made it a very friendly experience. Luckily, having only been out about 45 mintes, the guide though he saw something beginning to happen so drove off road to a quiet location. Over the next 90 minutes or so the Northern Lights thrilled us all with an amazing display. Brilliant.
