Unfortunately the weather on the day was very bad, but regardless the trip was amazing with some breathtaking views.
The guide was great, and very friendly.
I definitely want to do again if I go back to Iceland! I highly recommend.
The tour includes really many amazing places to visit. It takes approx. 9 hours though (not approx. 12 as advertised). The minivan was new and comfortable. The only big minus is the restroom breaks. There was a lot of pressure not to go to the toilet because there is no time.... (!)
Had a really good experience on this tour with Kristian. He took us to several spots which he described the significance of the site. He also made "pit stops" as needed. I would recommended doing this tour; hopefully you get Kristian as your guide!
I'll preface my review by saying that I am not picky or critical most of the time, however this was tour #3 of the week so I had 2 different competitive tour companies to compare to. This was also the first local Icelandic tour guide we had. The others had lived in Iceland 5+ years but were from other countries.
Most of the tours tell you to be at your pick-up stop at "X" time and that it could take up to 30 minutes to be picked up. I totally get that. What I don't like is getting to my pick-up stop early and waiting through the time + 30 minutes and continued waiting. Is 11 minutes late a big deal? It is to me, when you are still not the last stop. No apology and there were only 2 other groups of people traveling together on the shuttle.
Oh, and do you expect your driver to NOT miss turns and turn down the right roads the first time you pass them? Call me crazy, but I do. I think it's odd that the driver would claim he "was thinking about something else" and missed a turn - and this happened more than once. Now we didn't stray too far off course, nothing more than a 5-10 minute turnaround but it leaves a bad impression.
I also expect my tour driver to know the order of stops so it makes the most sense and is the most time efficient. As we approached drop-off he stated the order in which we would be dropped off. Another group was trying to tell him that we were right by their stop, could we turn and drop them (we had already passed by). No problem for any of us to do that. We whipped a U-turn, but again my expectation is that the driver be the expert ahead of time and have the best plan.
There were many great things to see on the tour, so I highly recommend exploring this peninsula. I also expect my guide to know the history of the places. This was mostly the case. However at one stop, a fellow passenger asked what was special about this place we were at. His answer was "what do you mean?". She restated - with a "why are we here, why is it on the tour". Answer was it was photographed a lot. Actually I had pre-googled it, and it had a historical story. So I thought that was weird.
On the positive side, he was super nice, drove safely and he even added in an alternate stop because the bathrooms were locked at another stop and we all had to go at that time.
Anyhow - Iceland is amazing so definitely check this out but you may want to choose another company because surprisingly, it does matter.
