See the jungle shrouded ruins of Cobá first thing in the morning on a 5-hour trip from Tulum or Riviera Maya, and explore a stunning Maya site before the crowds arrive. See the Maya come to life in a series of carved stelae while learning about their ancient culture, traditions and beliefs.
  • 5-hour Cobá tour from Tulum
  • Visit an ancient Maya city
  • Climb jungle pyramids
  • Avoid mid-day heat and crowds
  • Small group ensures personal service
  • Free hotel pickup and drop-off included
  • Family friendly
Meet your guide at your Tulum or Riviera Maya hotel for a 7:15 departure to Cobá, a sprawling inland site that’s only partially excavated. Visit Cobá with a professional guide, tracing a route to its iconic temples and great stone ball court. This is the perfect place to see a Maya site through the eyes of early explorers, as many of the structures are framed by creeping vines and tropical trees—watch for the wildlife that likes to visit the site first thing in the morning.
Challenge yourself to climb to the top of the 138-foot (42-meter) Nohoch Muul pyramid, whose great, sloping staircase emerges from the jungle canopy for fabulous views of the countryside. You’ll have the option to rent a bicycle at Cobá, so you can explore more of the site, including some mounds that are entirely covered with thick forest. Finish the day with return transfer to Tulum, arriving at approximately 12pm.

Coba is amazing and not to be missed. But the Viator tour was disappointing - especially for the price. The guide was very difficult to understand and the length of the 'guided tour' was very short. While Viator asked us - in advance - about food allergies - which lead us to believe that lunch would be provided - what we got were containers of fruit. The fruit was wonderful - but many folks visiting Mexico are reluctant to eat fresh fruit we were fine with it. Our driver was good and prompt. But - given the cost of the tour and the problems with the guide - we would have been better off driving out to Coba and walking through the ruins with our guide book.

This was such a great tour! Mark picked us up at our hotel in a beautiful SUV. He had food and water ready for us in case we hadn't had a chance to have breakfast because we had to leave at 7:30am to beat the crowds. We chatted during the hour drive to Coba and Mark was a wealth of information about the area, the ruins, and the locals. We were one of the first to arrive at Coba. Mark purchased our tickets and bike rentals and off we went. He took us to the biggest pyramid first so we could experience the best without a lot of people. It was a great experience. He brought a binder with photos and explained how things looked when the Mayans were there. He also had water for us as it was a hot day. Mark was a joy to hang out with and to learn from. We highly recommend this tour with the Connection Zone!
