We never saw the underground chambers because a huge storm ripped through Rome that day and flooded them. We were offered the opportunity to reschedule or get our money back but we decided our itinerary would not permit us to mis it so we went on the tour anyway. Our guide Halina came to the rescue. We toured the upper part of the Colloseum and then she improvised and took us out to Palatine Hill and the ruins of the palaces and Roman forum. Her knowledge was deep and I know because I studied Roman history. I even asked her a few questions I knew the answers to and she knew them to. In the end it was a great tour, rain and all. I was in awe as I walked into the palace of the Emporor Augustus and probably stood where he stood 2,000 years before.
This was an excellent tour. Our guide, Selenia, holds advanced degrees and is very knowledgable regarding history and artifacts. She could answer any question and made the experience fun as well.
A wonderful tour - the best way to fully experience the Colosseum from 3 levels. Our guide Vasco was everything you could hope for friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable.
This was probably the best tour we took in Rome. The underground chamber area and arena was fantastic. Our tour guides were awesome and very knowledgeable.
This was a fantastic tour. Monica was our guide. She is a historian and she had a lot of wonderful and interesting stories to tell. I have to admit that I didn't really think we'd get to skip the lines because I saw a lot of other skip the line tours online. I figured we'd still have a line with those other tours. But nope...a lot of the people at the entrances knew Monica, or she knew how to work the system, and we did not have to wait in line even once.
Be prepared to walk, and certainly don't wear heels. The ancient cobbled roads have grooves between the cobbles and heels would be a disaster.
Also be sure to go to the bathroom before the tour starts - there aren't any opportunities to go in the first 1.5-2 hours of the tour.
The underground tour is definitely worth the additional money. And the view from the high platform overlooking the forum was a fantastic opportunity for photos.
Overall, great tour and I'm super happy I booked it!
Selinia was wonderful! This tour is a must as you literally walk by hundreds of people waiting in line. The access to the stage and underground made my 8 year old son's trip. We all loved it!
Well worth the cost
Good to see the lower areas and gain a fuller understanding of Roman life and games
This is THE tour to do if you want to see the Colosseum 'properly' - we went from the spaces below to the highest point and then everything in between. Amazing and very qualified guides. The Roma Forum and Palantine Hill is also fantastic - but remember to wear good walking shoes and take water and a snack. Its a long tour and the finishing point is not very close to cafes etc.
Awesome tour and very informative tour guide. Fabrizio was very knowledgeable and funny. The Colosseum was high on our must-see list and this was the best way to see it and learn about it. We were told by others who had been to Rome to do a tour and after having been there, I can understand why. Plus it's great to skip all of the long lines, which exist virtually all year long!
Great tour from top to bottom - both guides very good
