What You Can Expect

Artisan Gelato Class in the Heart of Rome

Gelato Making Class

Meet your gelato teacher at a popular gelateria in the historic Trastevere neighborhood not far from the banks of the Tiber River. Your teacher, the shop’s gelataio (gelato maker), explains the process of making authentic Italian gelato. Learn about how important high-quality ingredients are to making high-quality gelato. Then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

With guidance from the gelataio, mix the ingredients for the gelato base. Then, get a lesson in operating the shop’s professional machinery — these are quite different from the ice cream makers you can buy at home. Watch as the base you created is turned into delicious gelato right before your eyes.

After all that hard work, sampling the gelato you just made is the only way to go. Taste your gelato along with some of the other flavors at the shop — family-run since the 1950s and a local favorite — before getting some authentic Roman gelato recipes to bring home.
