really enjoyed this shorter tour, we had teh collosuem and onto the pantheon. Frederico was our guide and he was really good - a roman in love with rome- showed us great places to get a coffee and pointed out great churches to visit - lots of hidden gems, would ask for him again when we are back in rome.

Informative and interesting tour if you're really into learning about the history.

Good guide but some changes to the programme so we went to parts of Rome we already had explored by ourselves.

We did not have any trouble booking this tour - this was the easy part. Received a call and a text the evening before the tour that the tour time was later in the morning and was being combined with another tour. This too was fine and we appreciated the call and the text. When we got to the designated meeting place, the tour guide leader insisted that I needed to pay them extra and that I had not paid the full amount. I was taken aback and showed him my confirmation emails etc but he insisted that the amount I had paid was not the full amount. I knew that something was not right and explained to him the whole issue of the call and the text the evening before and confirming that I had paid for the tour- it was then that he said 'oh you are part of this other tour and yes you have paid for your tour' - there was no apology and no acknowledgement that he had made a huge mistake. It put a bad taste in my mouth. It turned out that two tour groups were combined - we were a huge group and while our tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable- there was no opportunity to ask questions and we just followed a big flag and listened. This was a very different experience we had when we did a small group tour in Oxford,
England through Viator. If you want to get the basics and go on a large group tour, this is the tour for you if you want a more intimate experience and the opportunity to ask questions and interact with your guide, go with another company. I felt that Viator in Rome for this tour just was interested in herding tourists through the different sights- this was advertised as a small group tour but was nothing but a very large group tour.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better June 2017

3 days before our tour the Viator local partner contacted me saying that our tour has changed and we had to pay Eur 15.00 extra to avoid being removed from the tour. When we got there we discovered that some people who they couldn't contact did the original tour which I wanted to do. Our ticket included on Original tour included Palatine hill and we had to skip it to do the small bus tour instead of walking tour. Even if our ticket included Palatine, we missed it and the small tour was just 1 hour and we didn't have time to even take pictures on places we've passed. Guide had a heavy accent ans was hard for me to understand once english is not my 1st language too. I usually understand everything people say, but this time was hard. I was disappointed.

The guide did not want to explain fully the Palantine Hill and the Forum. It was a very superficial and bland tour.
