Explore the Colosseum after the daytime crowds have gone with an ‘Under the Moon’ 2-hour walking tour. After a welcome drink, you’ll stroll past the Roman Forum to learn about the capital’s Imperial history. You’ll then step inside the Colosseum to discover the arena floor, dungeons, and second tier — just with your guide and group. If you want to see even more, book the upgrade option for after-hours access to the Roman Forum and the restored Santa Maria Antiqua Basilica.
Please note: From August 28 to September 10 the Arena Floor is closed and is therefore not accessible. The tour will still use the privileged VIP entrance gate to the Colosseum that guarantees the fastest track access.
  • 2-hour after-hours tour of the Colosseum and Ancient Rome
  • Enjoy a welcome drink with your guide and group
  • Learn about the Roman Forum on a stroll along Via dei Fori Imperiali
  • Make use of a headset to hear all the commentary as you walk
  • Visit the Colosseum after the doors have closed to the general public
  • Upgrade for after-hours access to the Roman Forum and a 6th-century church

Why Travelers Choose This Tour

This tour offers a rare upgrade for after-hours access to the Forum and Santa Maria Antiqua.
Choose a start time when you book, then meet your guide at a location near the Colosseum. Get to know your guide and group over a welcome drink, then kick off your tour with an hour-long intro to the sights of Ancient Rome.
Pass along Via dei Fori Imperiali, and stroll past the Roman Forum, home to Trajan’s Market and a wealth of archaeological treasures. As your guide talks, you’ll make use of a headset to ensure no commentary is missed.
Then, head to the Colosseum for your 75-minute after-hours tour. Free from the daytime crowds, the Colosseum is somehow more impressive; with more free space, the scale of the ancient structure becomes strikingly apparent.
Learn about the site’s construction from your guide, and wander around the main arena floor where fierce gladiatorial battles were fought. Head down into the dungeons, where gladiators and animals awaited their fate with trepidation, then make your way to the Colosseum’s second tier to see where the bloodthirsty Romans cheered. Your tour then ends outside the Colosseum.
Upgrade: Colosseum and Roman Forum by Night (3 hours)
Book an extended tour on a Friday evening, and enjoy after-hours access to the Roman Forum, too. After exploring the forum, you’ll visit the 6th-century Santa Maria Antiqua Basilica, a restored church that only reopened to the public in 2016.
Please note: The Rome metro service closes at 11:30pm on weeknights. If you book the upgrade option, you may need a taxi after the tour ends.

Amanda was a terrific guide on the part of the tour which covered the area around the Colosseum, including Mussolini's Typewriter. Very knowledgeable about the history and architecture of the multiple eras of Roman history. We couldn't have wished for a better guide.

The women who handled the part of the tour inside the Colosseum were also knowledgeable and very accommodating. It's amazing that the building is still standing considering how many structural parts were removed over the years.

All in all an excellent visit.

The Italy With Us tour guide was very pleasant and informative. We had a great time and then when passed into the Colosseum at 8pm as the first tour group to get in, another Colosseum guide took over. You don't go into the Roman Forum or Palatine Hill, just walk outside them along the street with the tour guide. Then the Colosseum was cool however not too much exploring can be done especially underground. The Italy With Us guide said our Viator tickets would allow us 48 hours for Roman Forum and Palatine, however going there we were denied entry as those weren't valid tickets. That was disappointing. The drink and snacks wee in the tour office before we headed out, nice, nothing too special.

Unfortunately, the tour was changed from under the moon to an afternoon tour which included the arena and the Palantine Hill and Forum. The original was to include the arena and the underground . Our tour guide , an archaeologist, was well versed and enjoyed the history . This was our second time here and we enjoyed the tour. We spent about an hour and a half in the colosseum alone and another 1.5 hours at the Palantime Hill and Forum

Definitely recommend! The place was well lit so pictures weren't affected badly, and no crowds! That was really big for me, I don't like being bumped around. They also start you off with some wine and pizza aperitivo before the tour. The guide was great! The one outside, as well as inside the Colosseum.

Amazing tour of the Colosseum. We had the Colosseum to ourselves basically, only about 2 other groups there. We were able to walk around the arena and the upper areas with no crowds in our way. Plenty of time for pictures and questions. Well worth the price.

So neat to be there at night without the crowds!

Colosseum at night is a must do! Don't expect much during the Roman Form walk however - that portion was very brief and is difficult to appreciate the locations being pointed out from the street as most of the site is in darkness. If the Roman Form is something you're looking forward to, book separate tour.

Fantastic way to view the Colosseum. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and the brilliant guides that escorted you along the way. Well worth it.

Fantastic tour - our guide gave us history around the Forum and the Colosseum and helped us put context around what we were about to see - told us about daily life in Rome when the Colosseum was at its peak. Being able to go into the Colosseum without crowds, after the sun had set and it was cooler was wonderful. The only advice I'd give would be to pack a camera with a good flash, as it is very dark and hard to get good pics. This one is not to be missed!!
