Our evening tour was cancelled so we took a day one instead. We couldn't go to the underground because of rain but the rest of the tour was good. It as hard to hear the guide because of so many people touring the colosseum.
Aaron was our guide for the first half of the tour and provided the history of the Colosseo. Once we got inside it was breathtaking stand on the wooden floor where the gladiators once stood and looked up into the audience. We where a group of 20 and pretty much had the place to ourselves after the public left. It was a great value.
I wouldn't book this tour again. The underground part of the tour was awesome, but you can do just the tour on your own with a guide from the Colosseum. The Prosecco part was meeting at the tour company well before the 8:00 p.m. tour and getting one drink at a random restaurant by the tour operators office. You would be better off directly booking the underground tour and finding a drink on your own.
This tour was fantastic! We were able to see and walk thru an almost empty Colosseum (only saw 3 other groups in the entire place). Seeing the underground tunnels, cages, trapdoor system as our guide gave vivid descriptions of the magical and majestic performances that took place here truly made this historical venue really come alive. Be sure to also take the skip the line tour during the day to appreciate views from the higher levels for the complete Colosseum experience!
We booked the evening underground tour of the Colosseum, and about a month before our trip the tour company notified us that they had to change our tour time due to construction. They then rebooked us for a daytime tour. When we arrived early for the tour as advised we were given a sticker, to differentiate groups, and asked to wait. The guides stood around smoking and our tour time came and went, we were never given an update. Approximately an hour after the scheduled start time the tour guide started walking toward the Colosseum without an announcement, I asked if the tour was starting and only then did he motion for us to follow. Never giving any updates or directions he led us to the Colosseum, obtained our tickets then asked us to wait until the guide arrived. She eventually arrived and gave us an excellent tour. It was frustrating to pay top dollar for a service and not be kept updated. We understand that things change and delays happen, but we did not feel like our time or money was of value to this company.
Tour was very well done. Evening underground is super cool to see the extra areas and also super cool to avoid the heat of the day. It was frustrating to have the tour time keep getting pushed further back, and I didn't really need to mess with the snacks/drinks.... just get on with the tour!
