Go beneath Rome's Colosseum for an underground tour of the largest amphitheater ever built. Step into the darkened chambers where gladiators awaited their turns and lions licked their teeth, preparing to meet their match in the arena; and see a recreated timber elevator that shows how animals were lifted up toward the spotlight by slaves. Then ascend to the Colosseum's Third Tier for a whole new perspective before setting out to visit both the nearby Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, Rome's centermost hill and one of its most ancient parts.
This tour is not cheap, but worth every dollar for the following reasons: 1. This tour gives you access to restricted and locked areas of the Colosseum where the vast majority of visitors do not have access. 2. Early access lets you enjoy the Colosseum without the thundering herds that flood into the site later in the day. 3. Small group size moves easily during the tour. 4. Our tour guide, Dario, was very personable and highly knowledgeable about the history and the architecture of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Forum.
A Great tour with a fantastic tour guide who knew so much history time flew by and we enjoyed every minute of it , we would recommend anyone who wanted to see and hear much more than the short tours you usually get when visiting the Palatine and Colluseum.
Simply amazing tour! Costly, 4 hours of walking, and tons of information but well worth it. My wife and I had gone to the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill on other trips however, we wanted a specialized tour since we were bringing our 10- and 13-year olds to Rome to learn the history of the Roman Empire and this amazing place.
The key to the success of this tour was our tour guide, Francesca, she was marvelous. Plus we were lucky and some of the people had cancelled out and there were only 6 of us in the group making it very personalized. The tour began on the history and development of the Coliseum, then into the underground area, followed by going to the arena level to learn more, then to the top-level of the Coliseum before going to the Forum and Palatine Hill. Being able to go to areas only a few can go into was the highlight of the tour giving you a totally different perspective of this colossal structure.
One could go on and on regarding this tour, but let me say it was educational while still keeping you on the edge of your seat...amazing!
We typically do not do tours, but would recommend this one and Francesca with out a doubt.
This was wonderful tour with a very experienced and informative guide. Skip the line and access to non-public areas made a real difference here. we felt the tour was probably a bit long overall, 3 hours would probably be enough. The Colesseum was a real highlight of our 4 weeks in Italy.

We learned so much from her, so glad we took this tour!
