After meeting your guide at the Colosseum Metro Station, head to the ancient amphitheater, Rome’s most legendary landmark. Cruise past the entrance queue with your skip-the-line ticket, allowing you to waste no time inside this Roman icon, where gladiator battles once entertained more than 50,000 spectators.

With your guide, start your tour on the underground level, which is only open to a limited number of visitors each day. Walk through the maze of subterranean chambers to see where fierce animals were once caged, and listen to stories from your guide about the gruesome gladiator battles. Then walk up to the arena level, and follow your guide into the area where the battles were fought, instead of tracing the edge, as most visitors do. Tread lightly over pieces of the original floor as you look below through the gaps.

Then exit the Colosseum, taking a short break before continuing your tour with a walk up Palatine Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome. Wander through pine trees while learning from your guide about Ancient Rome’s origins, and see where the wealthiest Romans used to live.

Next, head down into the Roman Forum, following your guide around the ruins that once made up the city’s political and commercial heart. Hear about structures like the Arch of Titus and the Senate before your tour ends here, where you have the chance to stay longer, if you wish.

This was an excellent tour! We were only 5 people and skipped all the lines. We absolutely loved it and would do it again.

Amazing tour of the Roman Forum and Colosseum! Our tour guide, Rachel, was informative, thoughtful and very fun. She truly loves what she does and it showed during the tour. The underground colosseum tour was very interesting and totally worth it! Thank you for such an amazing experience, Rachel!

To see the technology available in the time of the gladiator fighting is incredible. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable. He was so enthusiastic to share his knowledge. Highly recommend.

This tour was absolutely fabulous! Our tour guide, Luca was fantastic, he was personable and knowledgeable and even gave us some suggestions for the best pizza and gelato in town! The small group aspect of the tour was wonderful - you will see huge groups with headsets following a guide with a stick; it was great to have only 5 people in our group. I highly recommend this tour - you won't regret it!

This small group tour was amazing! First of all, our tour guide Maria Helena was excellent. As an archaeologist, her insight was very interesting. Our enjoyment of the tour was her first priority. The tour took us underground at the coliseum which was an incredible experience. Only a few people are allowed underground at a time and the length of time underground is not rushed but strictly controlled. I highly recommend

The tour was great. Our group is very small, and our tour guide Thomas was funny and very knowledgable. We got to skipped the line and visited the under group and the 3rd level where we got a great view of the whole colosseum and the forum. It was a very hot day but we still had a great time. Definitely a great experience!

I took the above ground regular tour once and I took the underground tour twice and I will only recommend the underground tour it is fantastic and worth your time, especially if you are into history and the Gladiators. Make sure you visit the book store on the upper level, I bought 2 cook books that I enjoy using and they have items that I did not find anywhere else in Rome.

I give 5 stars to the tour and 10 stars to our guide, Giulia Pagliari. This was my 2nd trip visiting Colosseum. I completely missed the ruins right outside of the Colosseum during my first visit. And if it weren't for Guilia leading us through the ruins, I would probably missed the ruins again. Giulia was an archaeologist and her passion and enthusiasm definitely showed during the tour. We'd learned SO MUCH about ancient Rome from her. Also, she brought along this book that showed what the ruins looked like before their destruction. The visit to Colosseum underground was quite an experience. I could almost see gladiators roaming through the underground with wild animals locked inside the stone structures. What a wonderful way to conclude our trip to Italy.
