Why Travelers Choose This Tour

Walk on almost 2,000-year-old original floors, with special access to ancient tunnels and secret chambers.
After meeting your guide at the Colosseum Metro Station, head to the ancient amphitheater, Rome’s most legendary landmark. Cruise past the entrance queue with your skip-the-line ticket, allowing you to waste no time inside this Roman icon, where gladiator battles once entertained more than 50,000 spectators.

With your guide, start your tour on the underground level, which is only open to a limited number of visitors each day. Walk through the maze of subterranean chambers to see where fierce animals were once caged, and listen to stories from your guide about the gruesome gladiator battles. Then walk up to the arena level, and follow your guide into the area where the battles were fought, instead of tracing the edge, as most visitors do. Tread lightly over pieces of the original floor as you look below through the gaps.

Then exit the Colosseum, taking a short break before continuing your tour with a walk up Palatine Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome. Wander through pine trees while learning from your guide about Ancient Rome’s origins, and see where the wealthiest Romans used to live.

Next, head down into the Roman Forum, following your guide around the ruins that once made up the city’s political and commercial heart. Hear about structures like the Arch of Titus and the Senate before your tour ends here, where you have the chance to stay longer, if you wish.

I had seen the excavations of the Colosseum Underground on a visit perhaps ten years ago. I could not return to Rome without visiting. It was well worth it, as was the tour of other parts of the site and the Forum. Our guide, Luca Romano, was knowledgeable and fun to be with. The "small-group" claim is accurate. It is well worth the extra money to have a group of six or seven people.

Outstanding tour, facilitated by Rossella. She was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and funny. Loved that we were able to skip the lines and get right in, and access the floor of the colosseum, where we had time to learn, take pictures and take it all in, before heading underground. Perfect amount of time at Palatine Hill and the Forum, where we could have stayed to explore further on our own, if we wanted. Highly recommends, and ask for Rossella!

Tania, our guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. As an archaeologist, she was a really well qualified guide. She is also a really nice person to spend three hours walking around the ruins with and added a lot of additional colour to the visit.

Wonderful -wonderful!! Was there 3 years ago without a guide and no underground tour. This was the best!Tour guide Valeria was superb! So well informed ...being an archeologist made her guidance above the norm for sure! The Palatine Hill and Forum were just as informational and interesting as the Colloseum.Loved it..highly recommend this tour!

Our guide from livitaly, Marco, was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable and congenial. The contracted company did an excellent job and we were very pleased. We would use them again.Viator needs to be more clear in their explanations of the tour and what it entails. We weren't sure what we were going to see in the "ancient Rome" part of the tour. Luckily it included the forum and the palatine hill and the things we wanted, but there was no way of knowing that through the description on the Viator site.

We met our 7-person group as planned outside the Metro stop at the Colosseum. Check-in was fast and efficient. We were assigned to Federica, an experienced guide with an Art History background. She led us through a detailed tour back in time, from the newest structure (the Colosseum) to the ancient remains in the Roman Forum. Throughout her tour, she used visual aids to prepare us for what we were to see, and to help explain how the Romans created and lived in their city. Over the course of over three hours, she was able to take us over centuries of history, from the oldest street in Rome, to the views of post-Renaissance churches on the edges of the Forum. This tour was an outstanding afternoon of education and enlightenment, and Federica was fantastic as a guide and educator. I highly recommend this tour!

The tour, as led by Thomas was great. The downside for us was the thunder and lightning storm the day of the visit. The Colosseum portion was tolersnle with the rain but after we arrived at the Forum, the rain became unbesrable. The water that was flowing thru the Forum made the footing trecherous. My wife and myself opted out for safety reasons.
