This was a great one day tour. The guides were very knowledgeable. We booked this to go to the Amalfi Coast but found the visit to Pompeii most interesting.
One of the highlights of our vacation! Victoria was an excellent guide and Franco, although scary at times, an excellent driver. Bring dramamine for the Amalfi Drive! Our guide at Pompeii was great and informative. On the way to Pompeii, our van had a flat tire. Franco noticed when we stopped for coffee and breakfast. By the time we had our coffee, the tire was changed to the temporary one and while we were visiting Pompeii, it was changed to a more durable one. It was seamless. Positano was incredible! We had an amazing lunch with lemoncello, wine and all of the local specialties overlooking the ocean, the artists and the mountain of homes. It was a long drive, but well worth the time invested. The van was comfortable and Victoria and Franco were very accommodating and helpful. We were one of two couples on the tour so we felt that we were very well attended to. Would highly recommend this tour!
we were supposed to have a semi-private tour in a van. but we ended with a private tour in a Mercedes because no one else booked. that was very nice. our driver spoke no English, but he got us there and back safe and sound. our guide was Gigi. he was really good and took very good care of us. In Pompeii he turned us over to the guide, but came along with us, even though he had been on the tour many times. We went to Positano and that was amazing!! rained off and on through the day, but that is how it was. Since we were by ourselves we asked to skip Amalfi. There was some traffic delays and the day was getting long, so we headed home to Rome. was a 14 hour day, but totally worth it.
I strongly recommend this tour. It is worth every penny. There was a total of 5 in our group and we had our own driver and tour guide. Pompeii is amazing, wow what geniuses the Italians were. The tour of the coast was breathtaking and our tour guide was just as excited maybe even more as us to be touring the area and towns. Definitely a place to stay if we return to Italy.
We had such an amazing day. The drive down was easy and our guide and driver made it fun. We stopped quickly at a pit stop loaded up on water and etc. It was very hot. Then we arrived in Pompeii where our tour guide introduced us to a great Pompeii guide. The attraction was amazing. We could not get over all the details no one would know if they did not have a guide. Then we went to the Amalfi Coast. We had an excellent lunch in Positano and our boys swam in the water and we did a little shopping. We then went to Amalfi. It was so so beautiful. We recommend this day trip if that is all you have, but if you can stay a couple days that is worth it as well!
This tour was so much fun! We didn't stay too long in any one place. The Amalfi coast and drive is definitely worth it. It is so beautiful. I would definitely recomend getting one of the lemon slushies outside of Pompeii. It was one of the highlights of my trip.
The trip was excellent. It turned out that it was just my husband and myself with a driver and a guide. We spent two hours in Pompeii with a local guide and then were taken to Positano on the Amalfi coast. It is a charming village that lives on tourism. We had lunch there and then continued to The town of Amalfi. Our driver was terrific. I'm glad we didn't have to drive ourselves on that winding road. the entire excursion was almost 12 hours.
'Semi Private' translated to PRIVATE for our tour. We ended up being the only ones in the tour and were picked up and driven to each location in a Mercedes Benz! In Pompeii we got our very own personal guide and walked through the site before the main crowds started to come in.
I definitely preferred Positano to Amalfi. More shops and more restaurants. We had lunch right on the beach - a bit pricy but worth it for the views. Got about an hour of free time in each town - would have preferred to have more time to explore in Positano but overall the tour was great!
Only thing to be aware of is the roads on the coast. They are EXTREMELY windy but the views are fantastic!
Pompeii was incredible. I learned so much, and the Amafi Coast is beautiful. I would have liked more time there.
The tour to Pompeii and the Amalfi coast was great -- we went on a small tour so there were only six of us in the van so that was nice. The tour guide in the van, however, did not provide us which a lot of information during the course of the trip, only spoke up when asked a direct question, and basically dropped us off in each location to go out on our own. So I'm not sure what the purpose of her being there was! The guide at Pompeii was absolutely wonderful -- extremely knowledgeable and humorous. I feel like we saw and learned more about Pompeii that we would have on another tour. The scenery in Positano and Amalfi were gorgeous -- I wish we would have had more time in each stop to explore, but it was a wonderful trip. Be warned though: this trip makes for a very long day so be prepared!
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. Our driver Enzo and translator/tour guide Luigi made the trip even more memorable. The day was perfectly planned and we only wish we had more time to spend on the tour.
Long day but well worth it. Not sure why there was a trip guide as she didn't do much. The driver could had managed just fine without the help. There was a separate guide at Pompeii. The visit to the coast was lovely. Don't miss this tour- it was relaxing and a great way to spend the day away from the city.
Paulo was a great guide at Pompeii. He explained everything that we saw and gave us very good insights into life in Pompeii as well as the disaster that buried the city.
Pompei and the Amali Coast were amazing - wouldn't have missed it for anything. We were a little disappointed in our guide in that we didn't get much in the way of information in any area. We pretty much were just driven. Victoria was very nice but did not really offer much. When we stopped for lunch we were told to just go find somewhere to eat and as it was Sunday, there was basically nothing open so we didn't get to eat. Little things like that. But as far as the location - it was wonderful.
Tour of Pompeii was too long. 2.5 hours. Easily could have spent 45 minutes and the rest of time on Amalfi Coast. The only downside to this particular tour in our case was the driver. Very nice person but his driving was terrible. More than a few times I thought we were going to hit or be hit. Very dangerous at times. This was made even more apparent the next day on another tour where the driver was excellent. At one point, even the guide with us made a comment.
Pompei was the highlight of this tour.
Our guide there Hector was exceptional, sharing great knowledge with a dry humour.
Positano was nice to see, but we were on a Sunday and most places were closed, food was very deceiving actually the worst we had in Italy.
Amalfi was a better stop.
Long day in the bus from Rome, but seeing Pompeii made up for it.
Pompeii was awesome. The technology was incredible and our guide was good. The driver was a little crazy and smelled like smoke...bad.
The weather did not help the day. Both our Guide, Valentina, and the driver were just fine. It was a long day due to the heavy rain and we should have skipped the Umalfi Coast section Pompeii was worth the visit.
What a wonderful tour! Everything was planned perfectly. Our guide, Valentina was wonderful! We were picked up directly from our hotel, promptly at 0730 and we headed out. Valentina was personable, knowledgeable and very pleasant. Our driver, Estanfo was great as well. This is a must see tour! The view of the coast is absolutely amazing! The Pompeii tour was superb as well, Hector our guide was extremely knowledgeable and very warm and welcoming. Highly recommended this tour and definitely would recommend Valentina.
This trip was one of our favorites! our guide at Pompeii was a local gentleman Gernando - sp? who had tons of history and insights to share. he clearly loved spending the time with us, and we got a great appreciation of the area and the people of the time. this was much more interesting to us than seeing the coliseum or forum in Rome. seeing a whole town intact and learning how everyday people lived at the time was amazing.
a special shout out to Kirk of Viator. our original booking of this trip had been set in error for a year from the date we had scheduled, so we were not picked up as we expected. we contacted Viator -- thankful for their 24/7 service-- and Kirk figured out the problem and found another local tour company who could accommodate us two days later. he did an immediate refund of the incorrectly dated trip, and found one at the same price while we were on the phone with him. we got immediate e-mail confirmations, and the second trip worked out perfectly. Thanks Kirk!
we also loved the drive along the Amalfi coast and the views were gorgeous! only one suggestion for improvement, the young man Francesco who accompanied the driver to interpret did not have any recommendations for lunch in the town we stopped in. it would have been nice to have a few choices. that said, we spent our hour there enjoying a terrific lunch at Max's, complete with great seafood.
Pompeii was great and the tour guide was excellent! The drive along the Amalfi coast is beautiful. There is only one road that goes along the coast, and the traffic on it was slow. We only had 1 hour each in Positano and Amalfi, so that part felt a little rushed. Amalfi was prettier than Positano...it might be better to just do Pompeii and a longer stop in Amalfi rather than trying to squeeze in Positano as well.
The guide was difficult to understand. I was not told about the steep climbs in the towns along the Amalfi Coast. I would not have taken this trip if I knew about the amount of walking. Overall the trip was OK, but your description was terrible!!!!
The guide was full of himself. I'm sure 99 of things he said about himself were made up. The guide at Pompeii was incredibly enthusiastic! made it all wonderful even in the rain
terrible, van 3 hours late not airconditioned, too small for group, guide only talked to driver, driver got lost, a disaster
