What You Can Expect

Exclusive Catacombs After Closing and Bone Chapel Tour

Make your way to the Piazza Barberini, where you’ll meet your guide at 5:45pm for a 6pm departure to the first stop of the day, the Museum and Crypt of Capuchins. Hear the story behind the macabre “Bone Chapel,” which is built with the remains of around 4,000 monks, and discover the beliefs and traditions that led to the chapel’s creation.

After your time in the Bone Chapel, continue to the Catacombs of Santa Priscilla in a private, air-conditioned minibus. Among Rome’s extensive network of catacombs, this site is renowned for holding the oldest-known image of the Virgin Mary. The Catacombs of Santa Priscilla were the original resting place for the remains of seven Popes, and the 8 miles (13 km.) of tunnels are illuminated with bright frescoes.

This 2.5-hour catacomb tour offers the once-in-a-lifetime chance to explore a fascinating historic site after it’s closed to the public, so you can experience the catacombs as they once were: dim, quiet, and peaceful. After you re-emerge into the Roman streets, your tour will conclude at Piazza Barberini, close to public transport and centrally-located attractions.

The guide was very friendly, informative and had the tour involved. It wasn't just someone out the front flapping their gums. It always amazes me the different ways Religion exploited the human body.

The guide was fantastic as she took us through the Bone Chapel. She detailed the history and answered questions in our small group setting. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to see the rare and unique features associated with this period in time.

Excellent guide! Our guide explained the meaning and significance of both sites visited! She was very knowledgeable in not only each site but the history that led to their creations.

Our guide was really informative, and interesting. The 2 don’t always go together on some tours we have done, but this time they did.
The history of the buildings, and their contents was presented well.
The fact the tour of the catacombs were after hours meant there were very few other people there,we passed another tour, but there were no other visitors.
Highly recommend this tour if you are interested in the history behind the buildings and exhibits, too.

This was our third tour since coming to Italy Colosseum and Pompei were the others.

This tour was easily our favourite - we had no trouble finding the meeting point, and everything seemed well organised.

The crypts and catacombs were incredibly interesting, and our guide Rebecca was extremely knowledgeable - not just about matters specific to the tour but about Roman and Italian history in general.

Toward the end of the tour there was general information about Rome and some tips for new travellers as well as the opportunity to ask questions - great if you aren't familiar with things like taxis, tipping culture etc and don't know who to ask.

If you are in Rome during summer this tour is a nice break from the outdoor walking tours.

Rebecca was a wonderful guide and we would highly recommend this tour to anyone.

The only downside which was no fault of Rebecca or the company was a small group of angry American tourists who clearly had some sort of administrative issue. They followed the group for a period and it was distracting hearing the father of the family threatening the person on the other end of the phone with all manner of negative social media posts

This was a highly unusual tour. Our guide was well versed in the religious and historical background of the Capuchin and Priscilla catacombs. One meets at a square that has options to eat before and after. Then one tours the Capuchin museum and catacombs with the bone chapels. I must admit it seemed very creepy to me, but I know some people like to see bones in decorative displays. Then we took a small bus to the Priscilla catacombs outside Rome and toured the ancient and historic site. I recommend this tour for the small size and historical aspects.
