What You Can Expect

Florence Day Trip from Rome

See the statue David by Michelangelo at Piazza della Signoria, Florence

Your day trip to Florence starts when you board your coach in Rome and set off on the drive north into Tuscany. During the journey, admire the landscapes of vineyard-covered hills and olive groves surrounding the Tevere River that make up this famously beautiful region of Italy.

When you arrive in Florence, the region’s capital, your first destination with your guide is the Accademia Gallery (Gallerie dell’Accademia), best known for housing Michelangelo’s David sculpture, as well as other artistic highlights like Madonna and Child by Botticelli and Quattro Prigioni, an unfinished sculpture by Michelangelo that depicts prisoners trying to escape from the marble in which they are carved.

Next, exit the gallery and take a walking tour of the city with your guide to check out major sights such as the Florence Duomo (Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore), recognizable by its orange dome designed by Renaissance architect Fillipo Brunelleschi, and Giotto’s Bell Tower. Visit a local restaurant near Piazza della Signoria for a typical Florentine lunch, and then continue your walking tour to Basilica di Santa Croce, where Michelangelo is buried. Your last attractions is one of Florence’s leather-making schools, where you’ll learn about this age-old tradition for which the city is known, as well as other historical Tuscan crafts like mosaics and gold work.

When your time in Florence comes to an end, return to your coach for the drive back to Rome, where your day trip concludes.

The tour started with pickup right at our rental apartment in Rome. We were met by our guide and driver at 6:45 as instructed. We picked up one other couple and were then on our way. The trip to Pompeii was about an hour and a half. We were then setup with a professional tour guide whom walked us around Pompeii and spoke to us in English about the city, the culture, my Vessuvious, and other important hi lights. From there we drove down to the Amalfi coast, first stopping in Positana We stopped in three or four coastal towns for shopping, sightseeing, and lunch. The driver and guide were very accommodating to our wants and needs and allowed us to tailor our stops as we so chose. We were then driven home and dropped off directly at our apartment. This is a great tour for history buffs or folks looking to see the beautiful southern coast of Italy. It is well worth a day out of your vacation

Stefano was our wonderful tour guide for our Florence trip.. The guide who gave us a tour of the magnificent duomo Brunelleschis Dome, Giottos Bell Tower and Accademia Gallery was very thorough and quite interesting. Loved Michelangelos David sculpture, Madonna and Child by Botticelli and the sculptures by Michelangelo Quattro Prigioni depicting prisoners trying to escape from the marble from which they are carved. Both guides spoke English and spanish very well. We enjoyed touring the city and had a relaxing Florentine lunch. Lots of time for shopping 1 and half hour. The bus was very clean and the scenic drive was spectacular. This day tour is not to be missed!
