What You Can Expect

The Beauty of Florence in a Day: Trip from Rome with Lunch Included

See the statue David by Michelangelo at Piazza della Signoria, Florence

Your day trip to Florence starts when you board your coach in Rome and set off on the drive north into Tuscany. During the journey, admire the landscapes of vineyard-covered hills and olive groves surrounding the Tevere River that make up this famously beautiful region of Italy.

When you arrive in Florence, the region’s capital, your first destination with your guide is the Accademia Gallery (Gallerie dell’Accademia), best known for housing Michelangelo’s David sculpture, as well as other artistic highlights like Madonna and Child by Botticelli and Quattro Prigioni, an unfinished sculpture by Michelangelo that depicts prisoners trying to escape from the marble in which they are carved.

Next, exit the gallery and take a walking tour of the city with your guide to check out major sights such as the Florence Duomo (Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore), recognizable by its orange dome designed by Renaissance architect Fillipo Brunelleschi, and Giotto’s Bell Tower. Visit a local restaurant near Piazza della Signoria for a typical Florentine lunch, and then continue your walking tour to Basilica di Santa Croce, where Michelangelo is buried. Your last attractions is one of Florence’s leather-making schools, where you’ll learn about this age-old tradition for which the city is known, as well as other historical Tuscan crafts like mosaics and gold work.

When your time in Florence comes to an end, return to your coach for the drive back to Rome, where your day trip concludes.

This bus trip was well worth it. The bus ride through the Italian countryside was awesome. The tour guide on the bus was pleasant and informative. The tour guide in Florence was knowledgeable and got us into the Academia Museum quick and there were not a lot of people. The walking tour of Florence was informative and pleasant. The lunch we had was perfect and was at a small family owned restaurant. We do have one issue we stay at ABNB's when we travel, we like having bigger accommodations with full kitchens. We paid for being picked up and being dropped off. When we tried to arrange this, the tour operator said they only went to hotels. We were under the impression that they picked up and dropped off at larger hotels. We had to find our way to the tour operators office in the morning. Then they dropped us off at a Metro station, 4 stopped from Cipro. instead of somewhere close to the flat we were renting. Our flat was close to the Vatican by the Metro station Cipro. 3 Other guests were dropped off prior to us being dropped off at the Metro. What annoyed us was the 3 people being dropped off were at small hotels located in more remote locations then where we were staying. When it came to the drop off we felt like second class guests. We paid for a service we did not receive and were treated as if it was a burden to drop us off.

We enjoyed the Florence Day Trip, it's a fast day, use your museum time wisely, it's very short. Lunch was good, would do it again!

You cannot miss going to Florence! How can you miss seeing the David statue if you haven't seen it before? You can't. Just be aware. Florence is like a lot of other European cities like Rome and Prague. All the streets and sidewalks are cobblestone. You walk, and you walk, and you walk, and you walk, and you walk. Cobblestone is BRUTAL!!! Lunch was fine except for one thing I HATE! You could not talk to someone across from you because of the acoustics of the place. You practically had to shout. The noise level could only be describes as a din. And it hurt the ears.
