What To Expect

Make your own way to a central meeting point in Rome to meet your guide and group.

Walk over to the Colosseum with your skip-the-line ticket in hand, then bypass the main entrance lines to head straight inside the arena via the Gladiator’s Gate. Transporting you back in millennia, your guide regales you with stories of the gladiators who fought here to their death.

From the arena, head up to the first floor to see where the bloodthirsty Roman crowds bayed, and gaze out over Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum—your next stop.

Leave the Colosseum, and walk over to the forum as you hear tales of imperial-era Rome. Wander around the main ruins and monuments of the ancient plaza, which was a center of political activity in the city’s heyday.

Finish your tour near the Roman Forum.

NOTE: There is a new rule at the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill that only small backpacks and regular-size handbags are allowed inside. Guests with larger bags are not allowed to enter (there are no storage facilities) and all guests must now pass through a security check before entering the Colosseum.

Palatine Hill

You’ll head into the Roman Forum and the Palatine hill to learn the the wider history of Imperial Rome. Through the stories and anecdotes of your expert guide, the ruins will come to life and you’ll have no problem imagining the heyday of this incredible civilization.

1 hour Admission Ticket Included

Step off the tourist track in the Colosseum and get a gladiator’s-eye-view by using their special entrance and stepping onto the normally off-limits arena floor. You can’t get closer to the action than this. The arena floor is where people actually fought and died in the Colosseum. While most visitors only ever see it from the stands, you’ll bypass long, general entrance lines and step directly onto it via the special Gladiator’s Gate. As you marvel at the great amphitheater around you, your expert guide will tell stories to transport back nearly 2,000 years, when vicious blood sports were the most popular form of entertainment in Rome. During your tour you’ll also explore the rest of the Colosseum, including the first floor and Roman Forum overlook.

Worth going early and having lunch in the cafe in the used for the meeting place (Opius I think it was).
If you have small children or are elderly this tour can be challenging to withstand due to length of time on your feet and in the sun.

Our tour guide was outstanding!
Robert_W, Aug 2022
Our tour guide was incredible. She was informative as well as entertaining. It was obvious she enjoyed what she was doing.
Good value for a 3 hour tour
Shirley_W, Aug 2022
Knowledgeable guide and audio guide worked well, very tiring in the heat and could have done with some of the explanations sitting down when seating was available

Valentina is smart, interesting, knowledgeable and enjoys what she does. She is very thoughtful to the tour members and a benefit to your program
What a Great Place of Rome!!
Eglier_Y, Aug 2022
This was a very very nice tour, I must say that the tour guide “Maria from Rome” (as she introduced herself) was incredible. My daughter who is 8 years old said that she wants to come back with the condition of having the tour with Maria again hehehe. We all learned a lot about the history of Rome. The Colosseum is awesome! As a recommendation, I would avoid doing this tour in summer time if you have small kids because the temperature is very high. Thanks Maria for the great time!
Great taste of history!
Tiana_B, Aug 2022
Such a great tour! Jaber was knowledgable, friendly and hilarious, he made our day! The colosseum was insane, definitely a must see!
Perfect introduction to see and learn about these sites
Pedro_S, Aug 2022
This was exactly the type of tour we were looking for because it included a fairly comprehensive tour of the 3 sites mentioned by an experienced and knowledgeable guide. Admission was included and we entered through special tour entrances with little to no wait. Highly recommend if your goal is to get an introduction to these areas. If you prefer something more in depth where you spend more time in each site then book a tour that only goes to that individual site.
Colosseum Arena trip
Marisol_M, Aug 2022
Look at my son’s face when he was in the Colosseum Arena was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. The tour guide was amazing.
Great tour of the Colisseum and Forum
rosanna_s, Aug 2022
The tour was well organized, and informative. We did not wait in any lines. It was not crowded at the 10:30 time, and really pretty good. It was a hot day with a lot of walking. The tour guide, Antoniella, was excellent. And at a photo break, she really made an effort to take a good picture of us, which we really appreciated. We would definitely recommend this tour.

Absolutely do this tour our guide was awesome! Traveller tip book this early morning as it gets really hot in the summer months! Even worth packing an umbrella as a shade source!
Colleseum tour
Kevin_C, Aug 2022
The guide was very knowledgeable and his presentation was excellent. He was very accommodating of groups needs especially with temperatures in the 90’s
Marco was great! Watch the timing you choose.
Christine_F, Aug 2022
Marco was a fantastic guide. He was extremely knowledgeable entertaining and engaging. He managed the large group of 25 people very well. The only thing I wish I had know that it was possible that we wouldn’t go the colosseum first. I don’t believe it was in the description. We ended up going to the forum first which meant we were at the colosseum at the height of the heat at 12 noon which diminished our enjoyment slightly. Overall I would highly recommend but be aware of your timing.
Amazing history.
Angelo_S, Aug 2022
Out of all the tours my family and I did through viator during our trip, we all found this the most enjoyable. Our guide was great, but the history and the sights were just incredible.

Sev was the best! Very knowledgeable of the Colosseum and the forum. Tried to keep us in the shade as much possible.
Excellent tour even on a hot August day
Janet_W, Aug 2022
Loved the Colosseum tour, Emma our guide was very knowledgeable, and friendly too. Hot August day made the Palatine Hill & Roman Forum a bit uncomfortable in the heat but the information given was excellent. Bring a hat, fan & water to get you through it.
A wonderful, informative tour!
Peyton_H, Aug 2022
The tour was great! Vincenzo told us all about the Forum and the Colleseum. There were children on the tour and he made sure that they were involved. It was a very hot day, 96F and Vincenzo always tried to find a shady spot where we all stood while he spoke. The listening devices worked exceptionally well.
Alice_M, Aug 2022
This was my husband’s favorite excursion. Our guide was Guido. He was super knowledgeable and fun. It was a VERY hot afternoon in Rome and Guido was very considerate of everyone, always looking for shade and giving plenty of rest, water, and toilet breaks.
Don’t miss this tour with Sara
lorenapasquesi, Aug 2022
Sara, our tour guide, was amazing!! She is an expert in history and we learned so much. She was so nice, was mindful of the heat to take breaks and offered to take pictures throughout the tour. Don’t miss this tour with Sara! We had the best time! Thank you for such a wonderful afternoon.
Very interesting and well ran.
Ciaran_D, Aug 2022
Guido was our tour guide and really very good. He answered questions, allowed plenty time for photos, kept us in the shade where possible and had excellent way of explaining things. The headsets were very useful too. Very interesting experience. Happy we did this.
