What You Can Expect

Private Early Bird Vatican and St Peter's Basilica Tour: Hotel Pick-up Drop-off

Visit the Museums at your own pace

As one of the most-visited museums in the world, the Vatican Museums are understandably crowded, so avoid the masses with a private morning tour before the public arrives. After pickup at your hotel, explore the empty Vatican Museums with your private guide, who tells you about the history of the artwork and can customize the tour to your interests.

Hear about the legends and mysteries behind some of the pieces on display, and learn about the Renaissance masters who created the artwork. You can decide if you want to see the iconic Sistine Chapel first or last—either way, it’s the highlight of any visit with its famous frescoes by Michelangelo. Other treasures inside the museum complex include sculptures, carvings and paintings; your guide will make sure you see the most important masterpieces and interesting rooms and galleries.

Visit the Belvedere Courtyard, Gallery of Tapestries and Gallery of Maps, and then head into St Peter’s Basilica to see more artwork, like Bernini’s Baldachino altar. Your tour ends in St Peter’s Square, home to an Egyptian obelisk around which Bernini designed the square.

In a word: Spectacular. Giuliano Catapano was our guide. Passionate, knowledgeable, and a delight to have his Big Book. Apparently, it is some source of humor with the other tour guides, but Giuliano's oversized portfolio of pictures, maps, and diagrams really adds the the experience.

The early bird arrival was worth getting up for. And the Hotel pick up was well worth it.

We never felt rushed. And as a director of theatre, I must say: Giuliano has a delightful sense of the dramatic, and his tour is a story. He really brings the past to life. Afterwards, he gave us recommendations for food and coffee, and handed me his business card in case we had any questions while we were in town. We didn't get to the restaurant, but the coffee recommendation was spectacular! Tazza d'Oro!

As I've said in my other Viator review: my fellow Yanks need to understand: in Rome, being a tour guide is serious business. It's not a gig like it often is in the states. It takes a depth of knowledge to do it well. And we benefitted from that.

Elephant in the room: not a cheap tour. But, you get what you pay for, and I could tell Giuliano took the Stan Lee approach: With great power comes great responsibility. both my wife and I felt we received great value for the spent.

BE WARNED: This tour sells out in a heartbeat. Snooze and lose. If I were planning a trip back to Rome, I would lock this tour down as soon as I had my airline tickets.

This private tour was well worth every cent, we had a marvelous guide, Marta and enjoyed special access at a number of points along the route. We spent the morning in wonder at the Vatican collection and the Basilica. Our time seemed to flash by in an instant but we managed to see so much. Marta was incredibly knowledgeable and obliging, she didn't rush us at all, answered all our questions and was happy to show us what appealed to us. On top of all this, Marta was a fun guide and we had a few laughs along the way! The pick up from the hotel was on time and was a quick delivery to the Vatican. I would recommend this tour without hesitation.

I highly recommend this tour, it was worth the money. Our tour guide was excellent, the four of us are elderly and she took the time to work with us going at our pace and explaining everything en route. It was definitely worth getting up early for. Thank you again Silvia.

Not only was the early bird entry worth it, especially after seeing the lines waiting to get in. But our guide Serena was a pure joy and a great help getting me around since I have some problem walking and standing. We hope to see her again.

Our Tour guide was amazing, she was a fountain of information, we enjoyed the skip the lines, as they were hours long for these places. She also gave us pointers on where shopping was for all ranges of cost, so we could go visit. Serena was our guide and she took great care and showed us areas w the other tourists didn't get to be close to. An amazing tour and guide..

Silvia was wonderful. Her knowledge of art history is fantastic. She made sure we saw everything we wanted to see and she guided us through the museums and churches easily, efficiently and with all the history and stories that made it come alive. It was a highlight of our trip and one we won't forget. Being able to enter early before the crowds was worth every penny! The best way to see the Vatican and St. Peter's for sure!

First of all we would like to thank Francesco Grasso of Eyes of Rome for a fantastic informative tour. He has exceptional knowledge of both the Vatican and St Peters Basilica. This was a fantastic experience for the both of us. We suggest comfortable shoes since there are a lot of walking and stairs. This tour is well worth the cost.

Our tour guide Roberta was wonderful! She arrived at our doorstep right on time and gave us an awe-inspiring time at the Vatican. We went through the Sistine Chapel twice, as we headed straight there to avoid crowds. There was 1/4 the number of people there the first time through as opposed to the 2nd time through when it was shoulder to shoulder. Roberta knew her stuff and was a delightful person to be with. Thank you Roberta!
