Our morning guide, Claudia, an archaeologist, really brought the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill to life. She was informative without lecturing, everyone on the tour will remember what a vomatorium is! Rome was busy so the group access was also useful.
Our afternoon guide obviously loved her city and took us to some out of the way places to see hidden gems. Doing both tours requires stamina though there was plenty of time for lunch and a rest between them. The coffee stop was welcome in the afternoon.
All in all a great way to get the most out of a short time in Rome.
This was a great first afternoon in Rome! This city has so much history that you really can not see or know everything without a guide. Our guide PG was very knowlegable!
Unfortunately we missed the morning Colosseum tour due to delays in reaching the meeting point. However, the afternoon tour was the highlight of our trip to Rome. The tour guide, an archaeologist, was knowledgeable, so very sweet and engaging. Highly recommended!!
It was a very informative tour and our tour guide was well versed in the history, which made the story telling aspect come to live when we were on the grounds.
Wonderful tour. Perfect day in Rome! We learned a lot in just a short amount of time and I feel like it showed us all of the highlights of this beautiful city. Great tour guides too!
It was the best experience I've had with no delays or hiccups on a group tour The Guide with the purple Puffer fish was passionate informative and patient. Highly recommend all of this tour, especially the morning piece. Love love love Rome tours
A great tour with a very good guide who took her time to speak clearly and with everyone present and in hearing range. Time of departure and finish were accurate, even with the temperature being around 30 degrees. Explanations of different sites were short, to the point and covered the major historical aspects of the relevant site. Explanations of the excavation works was very interesting. So much history in one close area is awesome to view and learn about.
Was a wonderful experience! Would go again! Be prepared for some walking :
Two great tours that are well worth the money. Both guides were highly knowledgeable and answered any questions that the group had. They also had good recommendations about what other sites in Rome were worth seeing and what was the best time to visit to avoid the crowds and what tourist traps to avoid.
The starting point of the morning tour was easy to locate. We were given headphones and radios which made the tour much more enjoyable since the Colosseum was quite crowded. Having the ability to skip the line at both the Colosseum and the Forum really came in handy and saved us lots of time. There is a lot of walking so be sure to bring a water bottle if you don't want to be thirsty...there are plenty of fountains around to fill it up. I would have been lost at both sites and missed out on a ton of history had I tried to visit without a guide.
You have about 2 hours between the morning and afternoon tour so you have time to walk around and grab a bite it eat. The starting point of the afternoon tour was a tad difficult to find and one couple on our group was late as a result. The meeting point is 5 palm trees, which is actually 4 palm trees now. The afternoon tour took us to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, which included a break for gelato, and finally ended at the Piazza Navona. Well worth the time and money!
We enjoyed our tours very much. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and made it fun and educational.
While spectacular in and of itself, these 2,000-year-old wonders became so real to us during our tour with CityWonders. Your Tour Guide, Federico, was an incredible story teller and kept our attention throughout the walk. You can do any amount of reading up on a sight, but nothing compares to walking the site with a knowledgeable guide. We can't say enough about her attention to detail and commentaries that brought everything to life. We booked this tour following a night-time visit to the Colosseum and Forum and the entire dual experience was awesome. One side note, it would be helpful to have a cheat sheet of Names of Roman Emperors and dates. We especially appreciated the use of a tablet and guidebook to show us the before pictures, what the buildings, etc. looked like in the day. This is another CityWonders Rome winner.
After seeing the ancient ruins of the Colosseum and The Forum in the morning, we headed over to The Spanish Steps where the afternoon portion of the tour was starting. We arrived early enough to climb the Spanish Steps and explore the French church at the top. The view from up there was stunning, the steps and the fountain below and the skyline of Rome, all beautiful. Finding the tour guide was no problem and again we were treated to the excellence of City Wonders, specifically, Salvatore. We started our walk at the fountain at the base of the Spanish Steps. From there we passed the Keats and Shelly house where they lived together in Rome. One of the oldest ruins we saw were the remains of the 1st Century BC aqueduct. Salvatore provided facts after facts, stories and more stories, bringing to life sights such as the Field of Mars, the Bernini designed Parliament building, the 3,000-year-old Egyptian Obelisk and the Temple built in honor of Emperor Hadrian, the St. Ignatius church with its incredible frescoed ceiling. The highlight for me was the 1,900-year-old Pantheon with its Oculus, an opening in the roof for the light to shine through. To walk around this preserved Roman building, in continuous use since around 200 AD, is magical. Then onto the Trevi Fountain. Finished in the late 18th Century it is an absolute marvel. It literally "grows" out of the building. Again, Salvatore completed the picture with facts and stories, making it even more real. We ended up at the Piazza Navona and its famous Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi). The sun was low in the sky, creating a cool image of the fountain and its statues depicting the 4 great rivers of the 4 continents of that time - Danube (Europe), the Rio de la Plata (the Americas), the Nile (Africa) and the Ganges (Asia). This is a superb tour and pairing it with the morning Colosseum and Forum tour makes for the perfect day. Thanks, Salvatore for your great tour.
The tour was educational and fun. Great tour guides. Loved the receivers and headsets used to keep everyone in the narrative. Nice group size. Delivered on all my expectations.
This was a great way to see a lot of sites in Rome with knowledgeable guides and easy walking. The tours both were very efficient - there was no waiting and the information provided was excellent. I would definitely recommend doing this - make sure you have comfy shoes!
Our Tour guide was knowledgeable and very pleasant. Skip the line is definitely the way to go!
This was a great tour..Colosseum in the morning then historic walking tour afternoon. was a long day but not too much especially if you are limited on time. Commuincation good. starts on time. Both guides excellent. So very informative and professional. Both had a great sense of humor. Quality tours.
Excellent tour guide for the Collosseum and Ancient Rome portion. Really brought the history to life. Knowledgeable and thorough. It was quite a walk from the end of this tour to the start of the next, but our guide for the afternoon tour was also good. Area toured was very crowded.
The colosseum is such an interesting place and the lines are long. So glad we were able to skip the line. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable about the area. We really enjoyed it and could have spent even more time there. The only think I missed, and I know this is quite different from some other tours where they take you lots of places to shop, is I would have liked a chance to visit the Colosseum shop before leaving the area. There was a break before meeting another guide for the afternoon tour. So, we went to the meeting point early and found a place to get off our feet for a while and have a leisurely lunch. This tour was also very nice and included a visit to a gelato shop besides all the historical sites. Once, again guide was very knowledgeable and interesting.
If, I had one criticism it would be that since you need to get yourself to these tours, it would be nice to know both the beginning and ending points. This was our first trip to Rome so we were not familiar with it. We were able to easily negotiate the metro and get to where we needed to be for the tours. Our problem was in not knowing where it would end so we could figure out transportation or walking routes to return to our hotel. Got lost after the afternoon tour. After walking for quite a while trying to find our way back, we finally gave up and hailed a cab, which wasn't easy in rush hour.
Lots of walking combining these two tours, but well worth it. Having great guides that could provide so much information was much better than doing this alone.
Both tours were extremely well presented by our guides, Marco and Selina. Would have no hesitation in recommending these tours to gain an overview of ancient Rome and The City sights, particularly if time is limited.
