What You Can Expect

Rome in One Day Segway Tour with Lunch

Explore the top sights of Rome on this fun, full-day Segway tour

Your Segway adventure starts by meeting your tour leader in central Rome, where you’ll receive an iPod with audio-visual summaries that provide information about each stop. After an introduction and practice session to get familiar with your 2-wheeled electric Segway, take off along Rome’s historical streets for your exploration that takes in the city’s ancient and baroque landmarks.

Begin with Ancient Rome. Following your leader, cruise to Capitoline Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, and then pass by the Roman Forum, admiring its ruins while you hear about its history from your audio narration. Glide past Palatine Hill and Circus Maximus on your way to the Colosseum, where you’ll pause for a photo op of the vast amphitheater.

See Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta for a keyhole view of St Peter’s Basilica, and take a break in the Rose Garden before heading to lunch at a local restaurant. Fill up on Italian dishes such as pizza and bruschetta, accompanied by a glass of wine, espresso and mineral water (see the Itinerary for a sample menu).

After lunch, continue your tour with the Eternal City’s baroque masterpieces. As you cruise through the historical center, pass by the Spanish Steps, Church of Sant’Ignazio, Campo de’Fiori and Piazza Navona, home to Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers. Visit a viewpoint to look out at St Peter’s, and stop by the Trevi Fountain, where legend says that if you throw a coin in the water, you’ll return to Rome. Your tour ends when you arrive back at the starting point.

Note: The order of sights suggested in the tour description is subject to change on the day of your tour.

We loved our Segway tour! There is no way to see all the places we saw in one day, had we been walking. The Segways enabled us to go uphill, downhill, through market squares and down streets with ease. Our tour guide Julia was fantastic! She was so patient in teaching us how to ride since it was our first time.

when they say rome in a day they mean it. we been to rome 4 times and have never seen so much in one day. some of the places we have seen before but not like this.. up close and with such a small group. we learned alot more in the one day then we did in the 4 last times. marcello am guide and eddy pm guide were both great. we had a perfect time. it is a LONG day and it is a little hard on the feet but hang in there. well worth it.

This tour was first-rate, and I recommend it -- or any of Rome by Segway's tours -- to everyone who wants to see a different side of Rome. Although we visited a number of sites that all tourists see, such as the Circus Maximus and the Colosseum, we got to them and others by lesser-traveled highways and byways. There were also sites that I had not experienced previously, even though I have visited Rome several times. A real highlight was the commentary and background provided by our guide, Marcello, as he led us through the tour he added greatly to my knowledge of the city and its history. I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the lunch that was included in my tour -- it was very good, and provided a nice break between the two segments of the overall tour and the gelato from the shop across the street from the Rome by Segway office was the icing on the cake.

Amazing day. It was very warm and this was the perfect way to see all of the city with a bit of a breeze. Lunch was delicious and both our morning guide, Alessandre, and our afternoon guide, Gabriel, were wonderful and full of great history. They made the day very fun as well.

This was a wonderful way to see rome. My children 29,22,21,19 years enjoyed it as it was fast paced but hit all the highlights. We had Allessandro in the morning and Eddie in the afternoon, both we great!

Great fun. This is my third time on a Segway tour and it gets better everytime. Staff and guides were great and very helpful. One word of caution is that the shop is way off the beaten trail. Leave plenty of time to get to the shop.

We had a great time on our tour. We saw a lot of things and the staff was all great. We did the all day tour with the included lunch and we were pleasantly surprised with the lunch. Since it was included in the package I did not expect much but we had a very nice relaxing lunch in a nice restaurant with good food linen table cloths and napkins. I would fully recommend this tour.

Morning segment was fun filled afternoon got a bit long. The iPods with overviews of specific sites was quite useful and a nice break off the seaways. 6hrs is a bit much for the history lesson.
