Make your way to a meeting point that’s 1,148 feet (350 meters) from the Vatican Museums entrance, then head to the museums with a guide and small group. You’ll go straight into the museum, donning a headset so you’ll hear the guide’s descriptions of the Vatican Museums treasures.
Start in the Pio-Clementino Museum, where you’ll find the Laocoön Group sculptures and the exquisite Apollo Belvedere, then enter the “Secret Rooms” to see the Cabinet of Masks, which contains mosaics excavated from Hadrian’s Tivoli villa.
Walk through the Gallery of Candelabra, the Gallery of Tapestries, and the Gallery of Maps, where painted maps of Italy stretch along the 394-foot (120-meter), barrel-vaulted room. Learn the stories behind the Raphael Rooms, then enter the Vatican Museum’s masterpiece, the Sistine Chapel.
See a combination of frescoes and painted panels by Michelangelo, and the altar wall with the Last Judgement, whose more than 300 figures stretch from the mortal world to the heavens. Exit the Sistine Chapel through the Grand Corridor of the Vatican Library, then your tour will conclude just outside of the Sistine Chapel.
