What You Can Expect

Skip the Line: Vatican in One Day

Skip the Line: Vatican in One Day

In the morning, meet your guide and enter the Vatican Museums through a reserved entrance, ensuring you’ll skip all the lines, even the priority ones that are also often long. Once inside, begin your walking tour of this hallowed complex of art galleries and rooms, including the Ancient Greek and Roman sculpture wing, Raphael’s Rooms, the Gallery of Maps and the Gallery of Tapestries. Then arrive at the Sistine Chapel to admire Michelangelo’s famous ceiling fresco, The Creation of Adam.

Next, follow your guide to St Peter’s Basilica, where you’ll also skip the main entrance line. As you walk around the world’s largest Catholic church, admire more art masterpieces like Michelangelo’s La Pietà sculpture and Bernini’s large baldachin altar canopy. The first half of your tour ends here, where you have free time to continue exploring on your own or enjoy a rest before rejoining the group for the afternoon portion.

In the afternoon, you’ll travel by coach to three basilicas in Rome that sit outside the walls of Vatican City but are official papal basilicas. Start at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, known for its sculptural decoration and 5th-century mosaics. Bernini’s tomb also lies here.

Next, you have the opportunity to walk up the Holy Stairs (Scala Sancta), a set of 28 marble steps that once led to the Palace of Pontius Pilate and were climbed by Jesus Christ, according to Catholic tradition. Then enjoy your visit to the Lateran Palace and Basilica of St John Lateran, the official Cathedral of Rome and the seat of the Bishop of Rome. Finally, arrive at the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls, a UNESCO World Heritage–listed church that’s home to the tomb of St Paul, more ancient mosaics, colorful frescoes and the tabernacle by Arnolfo di Cambio.

This tour very interesting especially the backstories behind many of the sites, paintings, and historical figures, Our afternoon tour guide, Georgia, was one of the best tour guides we had on our trip and you could tell she was passionate about the topics she covered. Her knowledge on the subjects were astounding.

The morning tour was interesting, but the afternoon tour to the Basilicas was terrific. I could have spent a whole day at the three churches we saw in the afternoon.

Very knowledgeable tour guides. This is a combo tour so you get one tour guide for the Am and one for the PM. You end the morning tour then have a break before you walk back to the original starting point to pick up the afternoon guide. The only problem is the Vatican is very crowded so you have to keep up or lose out when you go from one area to the next. The day is long so be prepared to walk a lot and see a lot. The churches are beautiful and the information you receive is great. It is a tour I would recommend

My husband and I highly recommend this tour. Skipping the lines made a huge difference on how much we saw. Our tour guide took an interest in each one of us which made the tour very engaging. She pointed out the important art work, let us have time to see and appreciate the museum. We all would like to have more time in these beautiful places but our guide kept us on schedule and still gave us time to enjoy the beautiful basilica. After a break we were off to see the three other beautiful churches. She explained their significant and pointed out lots of details which made this tour memorable

The first half of the day we visited Vatican City. This was an awesome tour and experience. Saint Peter's Basilica was indescribable. You guide was very knowledgeable and professional. The second half of the day visiting 2 of 3 other Basilicas around Rome was OK. If I had it to do over, I would have just booked Vatican City, stayed there longer and had my afternoon free.
