What You Can Expect

Gladiator's Arena and Colosseum Underground Tour

Descending into the underground

Head through the dark heart of the restricted areas of the Colosseum underground in a group of maximum 24 people, right into the chambers where the gladiators once prepared for battle next to fierce beats waiting in cages, before making their appearance on the arena floor. During this tour you will also walk on the arena — the stage where the whole show happened — and the exhibition held at the time of your tour date .

Dive into Ancient Rome history and start your journey into the subterranean area of the world’s most famous amphitheater, the Colosseum. During this tour you will visit not only the underground area, but also other sections of the Colosseum that limit regular visitors: the hypogeum and sandy arena where battles took place.

Leaving the Colosseum, follow your guide to the archaeological area of the Roman Forum. Walk along Via Sacra, the main street of Ancient Rome, and reach the heart the Forum, where the empire's main religious and political buildings once stood — and sometimes still stand. See the Temple of the Vestal Virgins — it is here that the Roman priestesses tended the eternal flame of Rome — and the Roman Senate where decisions were taken that changed the course of history; admire the triumphal Arch of Septimius Severus, the Arch of Titus, and the Arch of Constantine, named for the emperor who, by defeating his archrival, Maxentius, set the groundwork for the decline of the pagan world and the rise of Christianity. Then explore Palatine Hill, the most ancient part of Rome, where you'll hear about Romulus and Remus, the twin founders of this historical city. From here you will enjoy one of the most spectacular views of Rome ever.

We had two tour guides the first was excellent the inside guide was not as good. It is awesome to skip the line and the special access to the top level was very cool.

This tour was guided by a women who has degrees in history. Her English was very clear and understandable. The directions to the meeting place was very precise and once getting there, was very well organized. The highlight of the trip was the underground. It is hard to believe what took place in this area so many years prior. After leaving the coliseum you are taken to Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. Again, a lot of information was given. This was a very long tour and quite a bit off walking/stairs the last 2 hours.

This was our best Rome tour by far and I highly recommend taking this tour. Our tour guide was the reason the tour was awesome, his name is Eudaniel Eugene in the US. I believe he has a masters in Rome archaeology and he was extremely knowledgable. How awesome is it to walk the underground rooms of the Colosseum recognizing how much history there is, and how important this place is to western culture! And then walking the Palatine hill where Eudaniel was able to explain how each emperor added on to the palace and how the different layers of construction were from different centuries. I would do this tour again in Eugene was the guide because I now have even more questions!

I wish I could recall the name of our guide. . .but she was amazing! She gave us many facts and led us all around and under the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Forum. She took time to explain minute details and kept us all interested for four hours. The group was small. . .Seven of us. I loved this tour and highly recommend it!
