Why Travelers Choose This Tour

Secure access to restricted areas of the Colosseum, including the underground chambers, with this tour.

Head through the dark heart of the restricted areas of the Colosseum underground in a group of maximum 24 people, right into the chambers where the gladiators once prepared for battle next to fierce beats waiting in cages, before making their appearance on the arena floor. During this tour you will also walk on the arena — the stage where the whole show happened — and the exhibition held at the time of your tour date .

Dive into Ancient Rome history and start your journey into the subterranean area of the world’s most famous amphitheater, the Colosseum. During this tour you will visit not only the underground area, but also other sections of the Colosseum that limit regular visitors: the hypogeum and sandy arena where battles took place.

Leaving the Colosseum, follow your guide to the archaeological area of the Roman Forum. Walk along Via Sacra, the main street of Ancient Rome, and reach the heart the Forum, where the empire's main religious and political buildings once stood — and sometimes still stand. See the Temple of the Vestal Virgins — it is here that the Roman priestesses tended the eternal flame of Rome — and the Roman Senate where decisions were taken that changed the course of history; admire the triumphal Arch of Septimius Severus, the Arch of Titus, and the Arch of Constantine, named for the emperor who, by defeating his archrival, Maxentius, set the groundwork for the decline of the pagan world and the rise of Christianity. Then explore Palatine Hill, the most ancient part of Rome, where you'll hear about Romulus and Remus, the twin founders of this historical city. From here you will enjoy one of the most spectacular views of Rome ever.

I went to Rome with the purpose of seeing the Colosseum and it lived up to my expectations. It is truly one of the world's great attractions and one which I have always wanted to visit. I would gladly visit again. The guides were excellent for both Palatine Hill and the Colosseum. They were both very informative.

Nadia was a fantastic tour leader, very knowledgeably, and patiently she led us through 4 hours of outstandingly managed visit. She dispensed a wealth of information with very minor questionable points. We will always remember her competence and kindness!

This was a fantastic tour hitting all the major historical sites in and around the Colosseum. The underground portion was really interesting and a must if you ask me. Our guide, Vincenzo, of RomaExperience Tours was amazing and a history book of knowledge. The 4 hours went by quickly. I wish I could have recorded everything he had to say it was so good. Highly recommended!!!

Every aspect of this tour was amazing; the guides were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, we actually did skip the line to enter the floor of the Coliseum, the underground area was fascinating, and the upper levels equally so. Worth every penny!

This was awesome! Our tour guide, Alessia, was an archaeologist, and had such interesting and informed commentary. This was above and beyond your standard, scripted tours. She was able to answer many questions, provide perspective, and was truly an expert. We skipped huge lines, and were able to see all aspects of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. The underground tour of the Colosseum is a must-do, and absolutely worth it. The tour logistics were smooth, and exactly as described. I would definitely recommend Roma Experience tours.

I recently went on Viator's Gladiator's Arena and Colosseum Underground Tour. I had been looking forward to this tour since I booked it. The tour was amazing! Our tour guide, Vincenzo was excellent. He started the tour by taking individual photo's of couples or families with the Colosseum in the background. He took two pictures on everyone's individual cell phone. He asked everyone to introduce themselves and give a brief background (I compared notes with other friends who took the same tour and their tour guides did not do these things). Vincenzo's knowledge of the Roman Empire was excellent. His explanation and examples of historical and chronological events were very informative. I really enjoyed his 360 degree overviews of events and his social commentary was enjoyable. The sights are well worth seeing by themselves, but the guided tour did a wonderful job of putting it all into perspective historically. I will take the same tour again when I return to Rome.

Have been on Colosseum tours before but this was the best. A good deal of the credit goes to our guide Paolo who explained the history of Rome and how the Colosseum was operated. We had never been to the underground or to the arena floor. It gives you a whole new perspective to the site to stand where the combatants were and prepared. Paolo made many interesting comments but the best was that gladiator fights were like professional wresting: a lot of action and excitement but not so much killing. Too much money was invested in training gladiators to have one die in every fight. Only on special occasions was ther a figh to the death. Bring water and a hat. We were ther in August and the weather was suffocating. Be prepared for a lot of walking on uneven surfaces. Nevertheless a great experience. A visit to the Forum and Palatine hill were also included. We skipped it due to the heat and we had seen it on our last trip to Rome.

We had two tour guides the first was excellent the inside guide was not as good. It is awesome to skip the line and the special access to the top level was very cool.
