What You Can Expect

Horseback Riding Tour to Inti Punku from Ollantaytambo

Inti Punku on horseback

Receive a morning pickup from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and head to the ride’s departure point, where you’ll saddle up and hit the trails. You’ll ascend by horse along a steep mountain trail, passing by a number of uncrowded Inca archaeological sites along the way.

Stop by ‘Las Canterras,’ a one-time Inca quarry used to carve stones for local building projects. Many of the stones from this construction zone eventually made their way to the Inca outpost of Ollantaytambo. Then climb back on your horse for the trip up to Inti Punku.

When you arrive at Inti Punku, explore this unique Inca outpost with your guide. You’ll quickly realize the site’s strategic importance as you discover its views of 4 different routes to the famous Machu Picchu. You’ll also learn about its expertly-placed astronomical features, which allowed the Incas to mark various events like the solstice. Even though you can’t visually see Machu Picchu from here (it’s blocked by Veronica, a local mountain) you can almost feel the vibes emanating from this famous Inca citadel.

Once you’ve finished your time at Inti Punku, saddle back up for the trip back, arriving back at your hotel about 8 hours after you left.
