What You Can Expect

Grand Canyon West Rim Air and Land Tour from Salt Lake City

Sightseeing tour of the Grand Canyon West Rim by air from Salt Lake City

Your Grand Canyon adventure from Salt Lake City starts at Ogden-Hinckley Airport, where you’ll take off aboard a fixed-wing aircraft whose windows offer bird’s-eye views of the scenery below. Listen to narration about the geological features of sights like Bryce Canyon National Park, known for its hoodoos—limestone spires that jut dramatically into the air.

Crossing into Arizona, enjoy an aerial view of the Grand Canyon’s West Rim before landing at the airport, from where you’ll head to Hualapai Ranch Saloon for lunch (own expense), followed by a shuttle bus tour of viewpoints along the rim. Stop at Eagle Point and Guano Point for fabulous photo ops, and visit the Skywalk, a glass-bottom platform that sits more than 70 feet (21 meters) out from the edge of the West Rim (own expense; see below for more details).

You’ll also visit Hualapai Village for a chance to learn about the culture and history of this local American Indian tribe before heading back to the airport, after about four hours of total time on the West Rim. Your trip ends with the flight back to Salt Lake City, where you’ll receive a Grand Canyon visitor’s certificate to commemorate your air tour to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Skywalk (optional):
Providing a heart-pounding experience for those who aren’t afraid of heights, the Skywalk perches 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) above the canyon floor. As you walk across the clear platform, enjoy panoramic views of the steep canyon walls and look down at the Colorado River. Skywalk is managed by the Hualapai tribe, and admission is optional; you may pay on the day of your tour, if you wish.
