What You Can Expect

Calchaquí Valley and Cafayate Winery Day Trip from Salta

See the Devil's Throat in Quebrada de las Conchas!

After pickup at your hotel in Salta, meet your guide and board the tour vehicle (car, van or minibus, depending on the group size) for your trip out of town. You'll follow Route 68 through the Lerma Valley toward Cayafate, which lies about 120 miles (190 km) south of the city of Salta. Your guide makes stops along your scenic drive through gorges, around mountains and along rivers for coffee or a snack at La Viña or in Posta de las Cabras.

Drive down into the depths of the Calchaquí Valley (Valles Calchaquíes,) a network of land formations that's pending on UNESCO's list of possible World Heritage sites. Stop several times for fantastic views of the unusual rock formations like the Amphitheater (Amfiteatro) and the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo).

Take a break in Cayafate for lunch with your guide or at a restaurant of your choosing (both at your own expense), or enjoy the lunch that you brought with you before meeting up with the group for your winery tour of the vineyards or barreling facilities. The exact winery depends on availability, but some options include Vasija Secreta or Domingo Hermanos. You may even visit a second winery if time allows.

After a short winery tour, enjoy tasting three to four local varietals like malbec, cabernet, torrontés (the region’s signature white varietal) or mistela (a dessert wine). Then board your vehicle for the comfortable ride back to Salta and drop-off at your hotel.

I didn't expect such a dynamic scenery, so I was always saying wow! wow!.
A guide and a driver were so kind and helpful.

It was a fantastic trip with a very scenic drive - the stops were sometimes to short. Our guide was really briefed and wanted us to have a full experience of the trip. At the winery the guided tour was a bit stressful. The whole image from the trip is anyway fantastic.

We were very disappointed with how our trip went. It started off with getting picked up over 30 min after our confirmed pick up time. On the voucher it clearly states an English tour. No one, including the tour guide spoke English. And the wine tasting was only walk around and try a sip of 2 wines.

The views were fabulous! Our tour guide was courteous and tried to include us in the conversation, as we were the only English speaking people on the tour. The group consisted of 26ppl, which is larger than I prefer. What I didn't enjoy was the stops at random shops feeling pressured to buy.
