Original Sound of Music Tour

Bavarian Mountains and Salt Mines
Your day tour will depart from central Salzburg, where you’ll meet up with your guide and venture by coach to the Alpenstrasse, traveling along the King's Lake River .

After a scenic drive, arrive at the salt mines and step into authentic miners' gear. As you enter, learn the history and local lore buried deep within this 450-year-old underground world. Travel down to the grottos on the same slides used by the miners and enjoy a thrilling descent! Explore the hidden terrain with a raft sail across the famous salt lake before making your way back up to the surface.

Original Sound of Music Tour
After your adventure in the salt mines, take off on your Sound of Music tour. Led by an expert guide, re-live your favorite scenes with stops at Mondsee to see the wedding church, as well as the Mirabell Gardens, the famous place where the children sang ‘Do-Re-Mi’ with Maria.

As you drive from each location, sing along to the celebrated songs from the film, including 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen,' 'Edelweiss' and the cherished classic 'The Sound of Music'. You’ll also have a chance to learn more about Salzburg’s rich history and architectural gems while you sightsee, and enjoy views of the stunning lake district.

The salt mine trip was lots of fun. The drive to the area was beautiful. The driver was very competent while driving through the mountains. As big fans of musicals we thoroughly enjoyed the bus trip to see the venues where the Sound of Music was filmed. The tour guide had many entertaining stories to share and did a wonderful job.

This was a very full day for us but very fulfilling. Having grown up singing Sound of Music tunes, this tour was very good. I would suggest that the guide update his VHS tape excerpts to a higher quality, but he was extremely knowledgeable and worked very well with the driver. The Salt Mines tour was even more fun than anticipated. Loved the slides and boat ride. Be aware that there is no place to store a purse or backpack, so leave your stuff on the bus. Tight time frame for this tour since the bus went somewhere else while we were in the mine. Then they picked us up and we HAD to be ready to go. All good.

Both parts were great! belongings stay on bus while in mine so plan accordingly. No photos in the mine but I bought the ones they took at the end- 5 euros- so stick some euros in your pocket if you plan to do this. Went from one activity to the next, so glad I brought some snacks. Loved singalong!

My 16 year old granddaughter and I loved the Salt Mines tour, the train into the mountain was good and the slides amazing, even though they looked challenging to say the least. Would have gone again if we could, the photos they take are only 5 Euros, which compared to anything similar in the UK is a fair price. Would have liked to have bought a guide book showing the tour, as they discourage guests taking photos, probably as lots of flashes would spoil it for other people. Would recommend this tour for such fun.
The Sound of Music tour in the afternoon was also enjoyable but more crowded. Loved seeing the locations from the film and lots of back ground stories. A lot of people on our coach were reluctant to sing along which was a shame, but our guide Ana was very good and tried to get everyone involved. Watched the film on my return home and loved seeing where we had been. Also recommended for lovers of the film.

This is essentially two tours combined which does save some money. We did the Salt Mines Tour in the morning and the Sound of Music in the afternoon. Both tours were excellent. The guides were very knowledgable. We learned quite a lot about the history of Salzburg. The Sound of Music Tour is worth doing even if you never saw the movie. Both tours give you the opportunity to visit the country side and both stop in lovely Austrian villages. The Sound of Music Tour takes you out to the lake district and to Mondsee Cathedral where the wedding scene in the movie was filmed. Be prepared however for the Sing a Long on the way back.
