This was certainly good value for money. We went to the Salt Mines in the morning before returning to Salzburg for an hours break before boarding the coach for the Sound of Music Tour.
Unfortunately it was a really wet and dull day with fog hanging over the mountains for the duration of our tour so we didn't get to see the mountains or the view from them! The Salt Mines were amazing. Our tour guide took us in to get the overalls before the doors were opened to the general public which was a bonus. The slides descending into the lower levels are a must. You have the option to purchase a theme park style photo of your descent which isn't overly priced at 5 Euro.
Our afternoon Sound of Music Tour was great, visiting all of the major locations used in the film. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided lots of facts about the true story of the Von Trapp family as well as the story told in the film. We weren't too keen reading other reviews that there would be sing-a-longs but in actual fact it was great and even the not so keen joined in!
Wonderful way to see some of the sights from the musical. The Salt mine tour was a nice surprise. We thought it was a simple tour through a cave. But it was ride on a mine bucket through the mine, then we slid down a long slide, then took a short boat ride on a salt lake inside the mine. Got a taste of salt water from the mine. Certain different and fun way to learn about the how salt is mined in Bavaria.
I loved this tour. Peter was our guide for the sound of music and he was so funny. He was very informative and engaging and we really enjoyed his tour. I cant remember our guide for the salt mines but he was equally good. Very knowledgeable and interesting. Would highly recommend both tours
This was a great trip enjoyed the Sound of Music much more than I expected Peter was a magnificent guide very entertaining
Salt mine tour was worth every cent and must not missed
Had an amazing day trip with Panaroma tours, even though the weather was grey and cloudy. Carlos our guide was entertaining and factual and his driving partner drove us safely up and down the mountains. The salt mine tour was fun with slides, light shows and a boat trip across the water in the cave.
The afternoon tour to scenes filmed for the Sound of Music was good too. We got to sing songs on the coach and we learnt many facts along the way. Best part was seeing the backdrop of the lake.
An absolutely fantastic experience. We were doing a tour of Northern Austria ourselves and so for the mostpart we sorted ourselves with days out however we wanted to ensure we saw all of the sights for the Sound of Music and so decided a tour with a guide was the best way to do it. We were certainly not disappointed at all. Our tour guide was very funny and so informative. We learnt so much about the film, the original Von Trapps and other intriguing facts as well including the fact that not many Austrians know about the Sound of Music! We visited all of the relevant sights with an hour stop in Mondsee where we could walk round the Church where they filmed the wedding scene and also look at the gift shops. We had Sound of Music songs on the coach as well as a documentary video on the way back. An absolute must for any Sound of Music fan!
We knew we wanted to see the salt mines and so it was wonderful to find a deal where the salt mines were included in the Sound of Music tour. Our guide was brilliant and very funny. We had a wonderful tour round the Bavarian mountains first remember to bring your passports for travelling into Germany as not everyone remembered although we were lucky not to be stopped! and were then dropped off at the Salt Mine where we had a thrilling train ride, boat ride and whizzed down two massive slides which was enormous fun. The salt mines tour was in both German and English and was just so interesting. Another must. We were given an hour in a local town in Germany where we enjoyed top-notch Apple Strudel! This combined tour is an absolute must.
We loved this combo trip day tour. We only had a short time to visit Salzburg and we packed 2 great tours into 1 day. We met up with the tour guide at Mirabelle Platz. Viator group staff is prompt and courteous. Our tour guide was Johannes who kept us on schedule and had a great sense of rumor. The Salt Mines are a fun, interesting tour. Everyone slips on official salt miner coveralls, takes a little train into the salt mine for a few minutes claustrophobics may get a little sketched but the train moves moderately so arriving at a platform where one can take the wooden slide down keep hands on body - not holding the rail - don't forget to smile for the camera or one can walk/carry little ones down the pathway to arrive at the next level where the narrative part of the tour really begins. Translation devices for English, Spanish and Italian ? are available. After walking and seeing vintage salt mine machines and pictures, a little boat is taken across a small 'lake' with a show of lights referring to salt creation. It's cool. It's really a splendid tour and fun for the whole family. It's a bit chilly in the mines and walking shoes are best. We had a great time! Highly recommend. In the afternoon, it was time for the Sound of Music tour. LOVED IT. We had a different tour guide this time who had a fun sense of rumor Peter. If you aren't knowledgeable about The Sound of Music movie, you will either believe everyone is knockers or you will have fun listening to those of us who love to sing along with the soundtrack! We learned that the other tour guide Ana is a professional singer, so you may really get to sing a lot on her tour. You will definitely enjoy the drive and history...perhaps even get motivated to learn about the Von Trapp family it is an interesting story after all! The scenery is beautiful - hopefully you can see it on a sunny, warm day like we did. Highly recommend, we felt we got our money's worth. We enjoyed every minute of it.
Had a great day, salt mines were fantastic and informative, sound of music your was s lot of fun, saw beautiful countryside and villages. Highly recommended
Outstanding and a great value for the money. Very knowledgeable tour guides and a great value for the money.
This tour is very good, tour leader is very friendly.we happy with viator tour.
Viator offered everything we wanted out of the Salzburg site visit. Thanks for the wonderful experience. Oh and added bonus for refunded us a ticket, especially considering that the individual had an emergency. Thanks again for the support.
Both tours were great. My wife and I learned a lot on both tours. There was one big question we had when signing up for both of these tours. Will there be time to get food throughout the day or in between tours? The answer is yes/kind of. Within each tour, you will get approximately one hour at the end to tour a town. During that time, you can get food, but it is not included in the tour price. Or, there was about 45 minutes in between tours to grab a snack.
Great! Amazing Tour GuideSonia and Drive. 200 enjoyed the Sound of music tour!! Love it!
Two separate tours. Exceptional guide for the Sound of Music Tour. She was a doll with a great sense of humor. All of the sights in the movie are on the tour.
Different story with the Salt Mines tour leader. The guide consistently said 'Ya' and was not as friendly as one would expect. The Salt Mine Tour was a learning experience but if you only have a few days in Salzburg I would skip the Salt Mines Trip
Our guides got both tours were fantastic! The salt mine tour worth every penny ! We both had a great time
Our only suggestion would be to give a little more time in the towns that we allowed to get off in! We felt hurried to use the restroom, get something to drink and look around.
This combo tour was the perfect combination for me and my teen daughter. We did the salt mines first. The scenery on the drive was beautiful and the tour of the mines was fun! We took fun photos in the goofy mining clothes. Our afternoon on the Sound of Music tour was a super highlight of our trip! I was happy to find that most of the tour spots were reached by bus, visiting spots we couldn't get to by just walking around Salzburg. Incredible scenery past lakes and mountains! Our guide was super knowledgeable and entertaining too.. A few movie myths got busted as we walked through iconic movie scenes and got all the photos we wanted. We had fun singing along to the sound track on the bus too. And yes, we enjoyed learning about the real Von Trapp family too. If your not already a super-fan of the movie, you should be sure to watch it shortly before your tour... the scenes really come alive... with the sound of music! LOVED IT!
Loved both tours of the Salt Mines and the Sound of Music. Would highly recommend both!! Thanks to Viator for offering both these tours.
The salt mine tour was fantastic,
The Sound of Music is just average.
Definitely a must, the tour bus was full, the tour guide was great witty and so knowledgable. Fantastic afternoon
Great trip to the salt mines, ended up being my family of 4 plus another couple which was just like a private tour. Salt mines were great. Sound of Music tour was also fantastic made even more interesting by our wonderful host - beware though - lots of singing on the bus followed by jocular hilarity!!! A great day.
The Sound of Music tour was wonderful! Even my children, who have never seen the movie, enjoyed it. Being able to see the movie sites, as well as sites around the city and the countryside, was really good. The tour guide made this tour. He was funny and informative. We also appreciated that the tour was in English. The Salt Mines Tour was nice also. We enjoyed seeing the mountains and the mine. The tour guide going back and forth between English and German made it a little more difficult though. Overall, I would recommend this trip to anyone going to Salzburg.
