Why Travelers Choose This Tour

This popular combo offers a great overview of city sights plus guaranteed access to "The Rock."
Meet for this Alcatraz and San Francisco tour  at Pier 33. Make sure you've picked up your voucher beforehand at Pier 41.

Board a scenic ferry to Alcatraz. Arrive at Alcatraz, a former federal prison that's now a National Park and get a brief orientation to the maximum security facility, which operated from 1934 to 1963. Pick up your self-guided audio tour, available in ten languages, and start exploring. Listen to commentary from former staff and inmates and learn about the stints that famous inmates such as Machine Gun Kelly and Al Capone served. When you're finished looking around, hop on the next ferry (ferries depart every thirty minutes) and head back to Pier 33.

For the San Francisco portion of your tour, meet at the designated spot on Post Street. Drive along the city's waterfront, and take in views of the San Francisco Bay, stopping for photos at Twin Peaks, Golden Gate Park, and the Golden Gate Bridge (weather permitting).

Other attractions visited on this tour include some of the city's famous Victorian homes, Chinatown, the Palace of Fine Arts, Fisherman's Wharf, the Presidio, and North Beach. Your tour ends back on Post Street.

Likely to Sell-out! Alcatraz regularly sells out weeks in advance. Book ahead of time to avoid disappointment.

The schedule for the day depends on the availability for Alcatraz. You will be advised of the tour schedule 72-hours prior to tour date.

I wish we got the very FIRST boat over to tour Alcatraz (instead of the third) so we could have had a least another 30-60 minutes. We had enough time to do the audio tour but not much time to walk around the outside. The city tour was great, lots of things to see and the 3 times we got out of the bus was great photo opportunities.

This was my first city trip via Greyline tours. It was nothing breath taking or speculator. We were a group of four (2 kids and 2 adults). We took this trip so we could stick to a time schedule - just by us it would be near impossible. While we got all the points checked off- it could have been more entertaining if the driver / tour guide was a little more entertaining or interactive. He started off by asking us not to interrupt him.

The alcatraz section was self managed. If you come at a time of year when its easy to just buy your own ticket I would do that.Main prob was a lot of messing around picking up pre ordered tickets at multiple locations for no gain. The city tour was pleasant and we saw great views and stopped at interesting spots. however, agin, a lot of dead time between the two halves of the tour. would be better if the bus picked up at pier 33 at 3.30 instead of making us meet it half an hours walk from where we got off the ferry. If I understood the process Id have done Alcatraz myself and done a half day tour separately just meeting in Union square. However none of these times all logistics are made clear at booking. Basically, its two tours badly tacked together. Nonetheless, both halves, were good, Alcatraz very worthwhile.

Trip was great. Well worth it. One bad thing was you catch a bus to go to a downtown location to catch another bus.Driver was great, friendly. Stops were great. Would recommend. Get your tickets ahead of time.

Great day in the city. We went ahead and got our tickets the day before for Alcatraz and it was very easy to do. The trip was great out and back. Then we headed over to the bus area. It was a bit confusing on where to go but everyone was helpful. We loved our bus driver Joanne. I have a newfound respect for bus drivers in the city. Great time had by all. My teenage daughter said her favorite part of the trip was the bus tour. We saw places we didn't even know where there. We also found out that the fog that rolls into the city has a name and a following on social media. Fun fact!! This is our second time booking through Viator and so far we have had great time and experiences.

The trip to Alcatraz was very interesting. Approaching the island by ship increased the tension to what we will be presented to us. The audio tour is absolutely fantastic and very exciting! The bus tour, the next day, gave us a good overall picture to SF. Unfortunately the fog and the temperature were quite low, but the bus driver was entertaining and funny.
