What a great tour. Russell Chinn, our tour guide, was amazing. He made Chinatown come to vibrant life in its history, culture, and food. As we walked around, it was clear that he is a local celebrity, since everyone knows him, and everyone greets him.

The tour itself was a very good balance of food, culture, and history. And I applaud Russell for engaging in the tour with us, even though my wife and I were the ONLY people on the tour. That's right, he gave us what amounted to a private tour. It was our lucky day.

I suspect Russell tailors his tour's content to the group, as we found the level of detail and assumptions perfectly fit our needs as non-Asians.

And the food! I love dumplings, and Russell took us to the perfect take-out for a very varied assortment. I'm not a fan of pork, but Russell found us the most savory, delectable roast pork I've ever had, with perfectly crisp skin. I want some more now.

And along with the history and culture and food, we feel like we got a rare insider's glimpse into today's Chinatown and its people. And I feel so lucky that Russell shared with us this beautiful place and these lovely people.
